I am installing a victron Argo fet battery isolator on my 1992 yanmar 4jh2e with an 80 amp alternator (internal controlled) . My problem is finding the correct “exciter wire to connect to the isolator. There are two wires to choose from on the same connector that plugs into the alternator red and black and blue and black. I can’t find out which one is the correct one.

I am not a big fan of diode idolaters, even low voltage drop FET ones. Having said that, I don’t think what you are looking for is the actual exciter wire as that is all internal. What you are looking for is the signal that turns the exciter circuit on.

But i don’t know which one is it. You could start the engine, measure the alternator output, and pull one then the other to see which one drops the output current to zero.
