Looking for ideas for a folding lower helm seat to use for those long runs from the lower helm because or weather or comfort. Want it folding because most of the time it won't be in use. Here's some ideas, one from a previous thread and some hardware. Would probably have a support post, too. Other thoughts and ideas?

In the first picture: DONT DO IT. Unless each one is rated for 600lb. I already tried that and it failed miserably in mild waves.

Go for the swing-out type of strut. I did that after I removed the folding arms. I have a pic here somewhere on my rebuild thread. I'll see if I can find it

From a reply on my thread by PeterB:

I copied what is in the photo by Peter B BUT, I did not use a pole. I made a large triangle strut out of 1"sq pine and is held on by Piano Hinges that folds out. The height of the strut is almost floor to seat height for better distribution of load from the chair. Stained teak and varnished, it blends right in. I have used it extensively since and not had a problem with it.
