After years of dreaming of owning a trawler, we were finally able to buy an 1985 Ocean Alexander 38 Double Cabin that meets almost all of our needs and was within our budget. After taking possession a few weeks ago, my wife and I moved the boat from Kemptville Ont, down the Rideau Canal to Kingston an ultimately our home port of Belleville. It was a bit exciting for us senior citizen novice boaters navigating through some 28 locks. Some of our lock mates said we were crazy but they were smart enough to let us go first so the only thing we had a chance of running into were the lock walls (it didn't happen that often and didn't do any damage.)

Now that we have a boat, many questions will follow. I must say that being a member of the forum for the past few years gave me the inspiration and limited but sufficient knowledge to follow our boat owning dreams.

Glad your delivery voyage went reasonably well. Not all do, such as the TF member who left his thruhull closed.

About the only way to gain locking experience is to go through locks. Your lock buddies all did the same thing once.

The Rideau is a wonderful cruise and you hit it as your first / delivery cruise... what a way to start.
Congratulations on your new adventure.

Congratulations on your new-to-you boat and your successful first cruise. I have never piloted through a lock in 60 years of biating, so I am impressed.
