Hey everyone,

Miami mobile marine mechanic, ocean crosser, joined this forum for the weatlh of information one can gather here, and hoping i can share some of mine too !

about me, Car mechanic when i was younger, database specialist later on in life, started sailing about 20 years ago. sailed across atlantic with 40' monohull sail, 47' catamaran sail, and with a 130' Motoryacht from EU to Caribbean last time. refiitted that motoryacht in Greece technically, and then cosmetically in Colombia, latin America.
 
Welcome aboard. Impressive CV of crossing the ocean. Did you do the refit in Greece or was someone doing it. Am still looking for a decent yard in Greece, one that can actually deliver what they claim they can do.:)

Perama has a few capabble yards, they catering tobthe lanrger ships mostly. Cartagena Colombia has good possibilities too, I have a few contacts there too still.
 
:)We are sailing in the Med, so no possibility to bring it to Carthagena :)

With Perama you mean the island in front of Athens ? I have seen quite a few yards there, visited one last year, but long waiting list unfortunately. Seems that everyone wants to do everything in the winter time. :)

No that Island is Salamina. Perama is next to Piraeus. The ferry to Salamina goes from Perama. And yeah, wintertime these guys are on full throttle. Wintertime is more relaxed in Turkey, but I wouldn't know which yard there is any good. In Perama Atlas is pretty good, although not cheap
 
Ah ok, then I know which yards you mean, have seen them when we visited some yards on the island. Saw mostly large boats lying in that place, so thought they did not do smaller boats.
Turkey unfortunately is no longer an option. It became a hype, too many people wanted to go there. Now it is the most expensive place in Europe to bring your boat and quality is mediocre at best. Most of the time it is P*** Poor quality.

ah just a stone's throw away ! i have a few customers up that way (or close to it anyway) :) i like FLL better, less crazyness than Miami ;-)
 
I was a "River Rat" in the last century. Lived on a Sailboat in the mid 70's between 12th and 17th Ave South side, I could see Merrill Stevens from my cockpit. Later worked at what was River Marine Supply just East of 12th Ave bridge. Later worked at an Electronics Company next door to a Boatyard on the River just West of 7th Ave.
In those days you could see the occasional manatee or dead body floating by. Gunshot at night from down river was not uncommon.

very cool, yes i know merill stevens, we pass by there every now and then. i am on a little house built on 2 large pontoons docked behind a house. in that little inlet wher glasstech marine is. we took it out last year buty as you can imagine it is not fast :)

Do you have a dinghy? If you do and you're up for a small adventure there is a canal between Sewell Park and the 17th Ave bridge. There are some shallow caves (circled) in the canal bank and the canal gets real small and meanders all the way to the 836 expressway. Pretty cool local knowledge side trip.
Because I worked in the Marine Industry I called on all the marine interests on the River back then. Glasstech is a very unique boatyard, was the "go to" yard for the Faithful Bertram Peeps back in the heyday of Bertram
The circled dock is where I had my sailboat docked in the 1970's
