Hello all,

Whilst in the restoration of 42-165 Hana Punahele, a "woodie" built in 1970, I have removed the original builder's plaque for protection. I noticed that the oval wooden piece the actual metal plaque is attached to is a piece of extremely dense wood. Does anyone know what it species it might be? I have thought it might be yacal, like the frames, or maybe mahogany, like the planking. Any ideas and comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Show it to some wood boat guys or experienced woodworkers and there is a good chance they can ID it. Tough to do from a photo, but with a good look and touch and feel, the right guy will know.
