40-45 ft convertible sport fishing boat

We have outgrown our current boat and looking for a twin cabin sport fisher. We have sea trialed a Riviera and a Viking and viewed several others. The market is thin on the West Coast so we keep looking.
The last boat looked like a winner until we hauled for the survey and the entire transom and about two feet forward of the transom on each side had a water logged core. It would have been a “project boat” and impossible to sell later without completing the repair.

I have a 1971 45' Hatteras convertible that I bought 20 years ago and operate like a trawler, at 8 kts. Its main duty cycle is to take us from Bellingham to SE Alaska for the summer and it works well in that application. Other convertible brands that you might look at are Unflite, Bertram and Ocean. But you're right, there aren't a lot of them on the West coast, and fewer still nice ones. I have a ‘82 Bertram 38’ Convertible I am thinking of selling due to medical reasons, it is located in Ensenada

Caterpillar 3208T, 300 horsepower, approximately 2300 hours.

Riviera would be my suggestion for SoCal use. What boat did you look at which was cored below the waterline? To my knowledge Riviera is solid below the waterline.

You might have to consider buying on the East Coast and shipping it as the market out here is pretty slim.
