Long-time lurker, just now posting... getting closer to the final retirement and looking at a boat for looping and island hopping. Came upon a 1978 38' Conquest. Really having a hard time finding historical info on builder. The HID begins with "BLN" and "online" decoders define that as Bayliner. Any insight from owners or other knowledgable contributions most appreciated.

Greetings,
Welcome aboard. A quick search for "Bayliner Conquest" turned up a fair number of hits. I didn't look at any of them but could it be that the Conquest was a Bayliner model? Like Pinto, LTD, Galaxy 500 (Ford) or Biscayne, Yukon, Escalade (GM)?

It's a Defever 38 Conquest, has a Defever plate on the flybridge. But I suppose it could have been aped.

It is confounding. Of all the searches I've done, I've only found 3 references. The boat was built in October 1978.

Probably this. Dated, but looks functional and could take you places.

A Little more info here including importer.

Looks like the full name was a Conquest Sea Explorer.

Menzies, thanks for the importer link, exactly what I was looking for! And I believe the "inautica" link is the boat I am looking at... In need of a lot of TLC to bring her back to that picture.

Thanks again! Now to figure out if it's in my abilities to make it work.

Sorry for jumping in two months late, but I have a 40' or 41' 1978 Conquest Defever.

If the HIN on the boat in question starts with BLN...

Seems to me a monkey wrench in the whole identification process? Or perhaps the HIN was simply incorrectly ascribed to that boat? Or...?
