Ranger tug 31 or beneteau st 34

Wow Bucketlist1, So sorry for the nightmare but thanks for sharing. Not sure I will be looking at the Ranger Tug any further. $200,000 plus for a boat and this is where you sit? Not saying that all Ranger Tugs are bad and yours was probably not bad before some careless crew “dropped it” on a...

Ranger tug 31 or beneteau st 34

Not trying to “hijack” any threads here but my question is also about Ranger Tugs, Tugs in general. My situation in a nutshell. We currently own a 27ft Boston Whaler Conquest which has a small cabin and can sleep the 2 of us and our 12 year old son, but maybe for only 2 nights max. My wife...

Bulbous bow - A good thing or bad?

From my experience as an engineer on a container ship, I agree with FF and MarkPierce. In a 24 hour period, our ship (with a bulbous bow) would burn roughly 64 tons of fuel oil at 95 rpm. So on that ship, it may have helped fuel economy but by how much, nobody I bet could tell you? Because if we...

    Farallon Islands overnight?

Well, I have searched all over the web and this Forum and haven’t found what I am looking for so hopefully this isn't a "silly" question. Is it possible and/or legal to stay anchored out at the Farallons overnight? I know you can't go on the island but not sure about dropping anchor? Thanks for...

    Glass Days

Mark, I don't know if you have seen it yet but there is a Coot for sale on yachtworld in Anacortes. She looks almost as nice as your Coot :) How does she handle outside the gate? I love the idea of a steel hull and I imagine you don't have any issues with water intrusion around the windows and...

    AT-34 has a new "garage"

I Love It, especially if I lived in the PNW. Rain gets old after awhile. It was great fishing when I lived there but I am spoiled by the Sun here in Northern California:rolleyes:

    Help me!!

I know your pain, we started looking at 50ft, down to 40, now back to 50! We just don't know what to do. But, a big part of "our" dilemma is not so much the cost of the boat but the cost/availability of a 40 vs 50ft slip to keep her in for "life". That payment that will never go away as long as...

Welcome, these guys (and gals) are all a great help for any of your boating needs. You are going to love it :thumb:

    Oh the joy!

Hope the food and drinks didn't go to waste. Still a great day to hang out on the boat at the dock and not at the office :) I once spent an entire day fishing off the boat at the dock waiting or them to get the boat running, only took 1 fuel pump and about 6/7 hours of messing with the engines...

    Seattle to San Francisco

Thanks everybody. Never thought of leaving it from port to port on the way down. A great excuse to hit Neah Bay for a few days:thumb: This forum is awesome!!!!! GFC, sounds like that trip truly was a "trip of a lifetime"

    Seattle to San Francisco

Thank you guys. This seems to be a "BIGGER" trip that I may not have time for. We have been looking at a lot of boats but I think purchasing 1 in the Seattle/Washington area may be a little much for me unless I get a "Great" deal. And then, I might take Bradenvlp's option and hire a delivery...

    Seattle to San Francisco

Thanks guys (& gals) for the help. Those older threads really helped and then took me to the Bayliner 5788 trip thread which is exactly what I had in mind. Read and watched almost the entire trip this morning, it's like I've already done it (ha). It seems to be a bit longer than the 7 days I was...

    Seattle to San Francisco

I tried to find this topic in another post but could not find what I was looking for, sorry if it is a repeat. We are still looking at different boats and are thinking of expanding our range to include Oregon and Washington. We are planning on keeping any boat we find in the San Francisco Bay...

    A boats true value?

Thanks for all the info! So, as KSanders stated, " a boat with Hino's will sell for less". Is this an engine package I should avoid as I have asked around about parts (northern ca.) and have not gotten a lot of good response! Cummins on the other hand seem to be available everywhere. And, also...

    A boats true value?

So now that it has been awhile since the 95k Defever has been sold ( in 2 weeks or less I believe), I was wondering what a boat is truly worth. We have been looking at many boats online and in person and there are a few we like, but now, we have no idea what we should pay for one. I believe the...

Defever 49 for $95K - Sign of the times?

I saw that boat as well. We are in the market for a boat between 40-50 ft and we really like the walk around deck that these boats offer. But we are afraid of the age of all these type/era boats that have Teak decks/older engines ect. For roughly 100k, give or take, there are also 1990-98...

    Looking at Trawlers

Thanks Art, I will give them a call when the time comes to start hiring surveyors. I hope the Bay Area is not to far for Mr. List or the other. KSanders, we looked at an older boat this weekend and it seems to be in OK shape, not a 10 but not a 1 either. So, the survey will tell us a lot I hope...

    Looking at Trawlers

Well, we looked at a boat yesterday and we might put in an offer, but the question is now, after reading what Bligh went through with his engine surveyor, can anyone recommend someone in the Sacramento Delta area that will do a good job? Sound like the guy that did Bligh's didn't do anything...

    Looking at Trawlers

KSanders, that is a great point about the older boats! Since I have seen many boats of similar age and make, some look great and some look like they have been through a storm (or 2) I guess I was hoping or the, "stay away from so so boat - they are the same quality as a 1975 Ford Pinto in...

    Looking at Trawlers

Art, Thanks for the tip on the Chris Craft! We are looking for a boat that does not have a tall aft cabin since I want to be able to fish off the back and side decks like the 48/49 Defever, 42 Grand Banks ect. If we go towards thatChris Craft style, we like the 96 and newer Bayliner 3988 w/twin...

Mule, if you are talking about Richard on Dauntless, I followed that trip everyday when I got home. Sounds like a lot of fun but to much blue water for me on such a small boat. I don't have the guts (or knowledge) to do something like that but what a lifetime achievement for him and his wife :-)

    Looking at Trawlers

Mule, thanks for the link. Those boats look really nice, I have never seen those Roughwater Boats. Probably because I definately want twin diesels as I want to take it to the Farallon islands (Aprox 30 miles outside the Golden Gate) and do not feel comfortable going out there on a single. I do...

    Looking at Trawlers

Thanks for all the info and inspiration :thumb: The one thing I know for sure about whatever boat we purchase is that it will live uncovered in San Francisco. We want to keep it at Pier 39 so not only will we have a boat on the Bay but also a place to stay on weekends, especially during those...

    Looking at Trawlers

Brian, that new deck looks great! Is that $170 a typo because that would be $17,000 for a you 100 Sq ft spot. That sounds scary. It sounds like you did a lot of the work yourself?

    Looking at Trawlers

Thank you for the quick response. Yes it does have all teak decks. What does it take to replace all the teak? Is there a lot of screw holes that need to be plugged when it is removed or is it just a dirty gluey mess? The rest, I will definitely look into and get a haul out survey and engine...
