    GB Woodie Transom

Thanks for all the help so far, we are going to fashion a cover for it this fall as well

    GB Woodie Transom

We are just redoing our wooden transom for the second time. Originally in varnish but then we had it stripped and it was cetol the second time. In both cases we have had issues with the seams between planks cracking open and water intrusion causing discoloration. Has anyone found a solution for...

Greetings from a new GB32 owner

Welcome aboard fellow GB Woodie owner! We have a 1967 and the shaft for the helm wheel is a straight shaft with a keyway. We have gone over the steering from one end to the other including the steering boxes and have photos if you need them. Our steering is smooth enough that we could spin that...

    Wood GB 33

All boats have their maintenance. We have owned our GB 32 1967 for the last 11 years and the key to wooden boat ownership , or any boat for that matter, is buy one that has been cared for and not neglected. That way you are starting at a known commodity and while there are always surprises...

    GB32 Stern tube removal

We had this bearing replaced a few years ago and it was a job I farmed out to the boat yard mechanics, 53 years it had been in there and in the end it had to be sawzall cut out and removed in pieces from the tube.

    Upper gauges not working

We had this recently on our GB and what I found was that GB liked to have a common ground bolt for some of the wiring (mine had two) and everything was just dog piled up on there with multiple connectors, after 50 years of vibration I lost one ground lug that fed the fly bridge gauges. Because...

What a knuckle duster of a job, you made me feel lucky!

    Oil Pressure Sender

I also hate this installation! For two reasons, one is the now single point of failure on that silly rubber hose, the other is that I have a matching dent on my forehead from that thing as I get in and out of that side of the engine on our GB 32. The original senders were right on the block...

GB 32 How to lift engine to change mounts

I already had the mount in and was lowering it and fortunately thought to have a look as I cranked the nut down on the other side. No damage done! But I did have to disassemble it all and take it home to my shop and zip disk an inch or more off the mounting bolt. The front right corner is also...

    Damper Plate Lehman 120

While in haul out we changed the damper plate, used 8" long bolts replacing the original bolts in several location to slide the transmission back and changed the plate in a couple of hours. Thanks to those who offered those ideas. Ours was still in relatively good shape but we had the shaft...

GB 32 How to lift engine to change mounts

As I was sitting down to type this out I see Hobbystuff has posted the exact procedure we used today and it worked like a charm. It even made changing our front left cracked bracket a breeze! All you have to do is crank up the three mounts you are not changing and then change them one by one...

Currently in a haul out to fix some serious over zinc damage around the shaft log and

The underlying keel planking was unscathed, not sure of the wood type but you could hit it with a hammer and not leave a dent, extremely dense. I was very happy to see that it was intact. Here are a couple more before and after pictures of the cleanup.

Yes this is a Lehman 120, forgot to mention that. Thanks for more ideas, back to the boat today and will let you know how we make out.

GB 32 How to lift engine to change mounts

Both good ideas, do you think the oil pan can take the lift weight? Engine weight is around 1000 lbs, so 500 to lift front end ?

Currently in a haul out to fix some serious over zinc damage around the shaft log and

The shaft log wood is now replaced with a purple heart filler piece. The original piece is shown here and at 54 years its warranty was up. In the end we had some water leakage due to wood wasting by the galvanic action of the over zinc, and some was the gasket material used had failed. The...

GB 32 How to lift engine to change mounts

Thanks for all the ideas so far! The problem we are having is the rear mounts can be replaced just by lifting the engine with a sling and 4x4's. You only need about two inches and then you can just unbolt the bracket from the motor and change the mount. But... The front mounts are another...

GB 32 How to lift engine to change mounts

Has anyone done this with the GB 32, and as a two part question to complicate matters, the front left alternator bracket that holds the SB front mount is broken!!

Currently in a haul out to fix some serious over zinc damage around the shaft log and

When it comes to wood corrosive control bonding all metals and having a system installed where you can keep the levels right is probably the best ideal situation. Unfortunately not every owner is diligent about this and things get added and subtracted to the bonding loop or maintenance gets...

Currently in a haul out to fix some serious over zinc damage around the shaft log and

I replaced the thru hulls when we got the boat ten years ago as they were original and some were frozen, also some fuzz around each. We left them isolated and unbonded and have had not an issue at all since then. If a system is fully bonded as Nigel Calder says "in perfect condition" and...

Currently in a haul out to fix some serious over zinc damage around the shaft log and

Here is a picture of what was on the boat when we got it, there were two large plate zincs and a rudder and prop spinner. I would be interested in how your shaft is isolated, ours is just a straight metal to metal plate. Given that the rudder is bronze and so is the bracket holding it I am not...

Currently in a haul out to fix some serious over zinc damage around the shaft log and am stuck on how to move on from here. There is an original steel piece that spanned the rib gap where the shaft goes by. It is rusted beyond rust and at the ends where the bolts are the wood is quite wasted...

School me on FL120 fuel pumps...

Our boat is a 1967 and has had nothing but a racor and the engine filters feeding the mechanical pump for more than 50 years, simple but effective. The mechanical pump has been replaced once. On diesel generators I used to service for work , many times it wasn't so much a blockage as air...
