    Manatee cutlass bearing

Sorry for double photo. Yard is going to check if shaft hole beneath zinc. Fingers crossed. RT that was a warm day. We could still go outside. But we are done with that craziness for now on. We are committed to cruising Chesapeake to Keys and back from now on!!!

    Manatee cutlass bearing

Hi all, The yard says cutlass bearing needs replacement. I've done this on my sailboat but just know this is beyond my DYI skills. They plan on digging a hole and dropping the rudder. Still waiting for estimate. Anyone else had this done? Cost? Thanks much for any input. Bob KASSIE 3693

    Aed...

We had same issue. I'm 6 years out from my heart attack. We cruise full time. My cardiologist at Penn is very jealous. Asked him if it was a good idea to get an AED, "If something happened to either one of you, how would you feel if you didn't have one? Make your decision based on your answer."...

    Manatee Bottom Blister Survey

KASSIE had blisters at survey when we purchased. Surveyor assured us they were not serious. Had hull checked at Osprey Composites. At first it was good news then they did more grinding and said some previous poor repairs were just a cosmetic solution. Long story short...new hull job $26k. We are...

    Manatee House Bank Capacity

Got a great price on t105s from my marina, so that made it easy. I'm not about to remove and install them, they gave me a good deal on that also . My banks are in 4 cases slid up to the hull side in engine room. Bolted down. There is a watering system attached so that makes it easy. New t105 are...

    Manatee House Bank Capacity

We've been cruising for three years. We live happily with the mantra of less is more. Bob

    Manatee House Bank Capacity

Well, it seems it's time to replace house bank. T105s (8) making 900ah. PO installed these but now wondering if I need 8. We cruise full time but are power frugal (ex sailors). I realize there are many variables but just would like to know what others Manatees carry. We have genset, high output...

    Manatee Boarding Ladder

Larry, thanks for the assorted options. Very informative. On your photo, how many steps are there? Why side mounted and not on transom so you could just step on to transom door? I think you saw our swim platform, it looks fine with door down but when up it is just ugly. Looks really odd with...

    Manatee Boarding Ladder

We will be removing the swim platforms from the stern of our Manatee. While functional, they are seriously ugly. But, we will now have to face getting back in the boat from swimming (both voluntary and involuntary). What do you use as a ladder? Over the gunwale seems like the production ladders...

    Water tanks not emptying simultaneously

Thanks for all the replies. Getting dark, alcohol kicking in, doesn't seem like such a big deal right now.??? We have a 45 gallon water bag that we put in our dinghy, fill up at fuel dock and then transfer with small electric pump to water tanks. Guess what, the boat now sits level in the water...

I'm leaving the fill caps off for now to see what happens over next day or so.

    Water tanks not emptying simultaneously

There looks to be a t with cap on the one outlet side of port tank, a few feet later port and starboard are joined. Maybe it's not a check valve but instead a clean out? But it's only on the one tank. Took cap off and there was like a crown of crud which disintegrated in my fingers. Very...

    Water tanks not emptying simultaneously

Well, this is odd. We have two 150 gallon each water tanks on our Manatee. The port tank has decided it isn't giving up its water. Usually both tanks drain equally. Knew something was up with our list. It seemed to self correct after a section of our cruise stopped but it is now back. I'm...

    Windlass is terminal

Thanks for all the good suggestions. The unit is old, agree, too much of a PITA to take apart, source repairs and at considerable cost of time and money. Think it's best to start new. I've done these before on our sailboats, fairly straightforward even for me. But on this boat, Krogen Manatee...

    Windlass is terminal

The motor is fine, the gearing is shot. It will grind to a halt. Sometimes can get it going again by reversing or kicking the chain. Gets loose for a revolution but hangs up in same spot. Comes up better than going down.

    Paradise Found?

Thanks for all the replies, very useful. We keep recognizing that the Gulf coast is the choice for us based on suggestions. We can "visit" the clear water when we want. We really liked the Tampa Bay/Sarasota area when we went by land dinghy (Honda Pilot). We like the freedom of a mooring ball...
