    Transporting Gasoline

Thanks WesK and RT Firefly... you are correct on the vapor density being Heavier than air.

    Transporting Gasoline

Ventilation... The problem with gasoline is evaporation and venting the (explosive) vapor. This vapor is lighter than air and will rise. You need to control any potential for spill but allow the evaporating vapor to vent. In other words, something with a solid BOTTOM or catch basin but open...

    Krogan 42 stabilizer

Several of us have been discussing this at the last couple of PNW Krog-Ins. Contacts were made with Kent Morrow of Northwest Rigging, Anacortes. This is where Oogachaka had theirs made. The ballpark figure Kent threw out was $16000 installed.

Best 12v to 24v charging set-up for stern thruster

Last winter I replaced my 12v bow thruster with a 24v unit giving me almost twice the thrust with twice the duration. Two AGMs were placed next to the thruster and I removed 30 feet of 4/0 cabling. As for the charging system, I have a Guest 20A (12v)charger capable of two banks. Each bank...

    Paravanes: Looking for PNW yard

Thanks for jumping in Larry. I have followed your post closely and was disappointed to find out you are now across the country. I have talked with a number of KK owners with paravanes but it seems they were all put on by PO's which hasn't helped with finding a fabricator. The plans I have (by...

    Paravanes: Looking for PNW yard

Thanks guys, just what I needed... some leads to get my search going. I was also given the name of Rozema Boat Works out of Mt.Vernon. Bellingham is pretty close to us as well. I'll keep TF informed of what I find. I have the names of several other KK42 owners that would like to jump in too...

    Paravanes: Looking for PNW yard

I would like to put paravanes on my KK42 and I'm looking for a good boat yard in the Anacortes or Seattle area. I know a number of 42's out there have had them installed in this area so I'm looking for yard recommendations. As for design, I have a full set of blueprints from Jim Krogen and...

    Can I afford a KK42?

Krogen went to solid fiberglass below the waterline at hull #186 of 206 boats, I believe this was around 1993. After looking at KK42 for many years and not knowing what the final budget would be, we finally purchased ours last year. For us, a brand new KK44 would have been the best choice...

    galley-up or galley-down?

We love to eat! At 7 kts we don't get very far before we're cooking something. With a locking oven door and pot holders on the stovetop it hasn't been a problem.:thumb: Of course we use discrimination on what we cook to keep it safe and the helmsman gives a shout out for the Mega Wave...

    RPM minimum

To the original question, attached PDF is straight from my Ford Lehmann SP 135 manual: (see photo below) I've adjusted my FL SP135 down to 650 rpm and she runs with a vibrating lope that knocks everything off the shelves. I've been keeping her at about 775 rpm and she runs much...

    Wing Engine

The first thing I would do is to give Dennis a call:thumb:. He really knows his stuff when it comes to Krogens both old and new. He also has the knowledge base of the entire Krogen staff and the many different configurations owners have tried. Jim

    Wiring gripes

I wasn't too sure of the yellow/negative at first. All of my large diameter 12v negative wiring is black welding cable, common for the era. I've been in the process of replacing it using yellow. It now gives me a quick reference between old and new.

    It’s Showtime

Ditto about the messages! I think many of us are picturing/dreaming of ourselves in the Pilothouse on a similar adventure. As for the engine on Dauntless (KK148), Rekindle (KK145) has the FL-SP135 so I'd imagine she's the same as most of that vintage are. Fuel burn rate should be closer to...

    Our offer was accepted!

Great advise from RT Firefly. The blue hull looks great. A piece of our story: Half way through our survey water intrusion was found on the boat deck:eek:. Brokers and surveyors wanting to know if I wanted to continue or save half the survey cost and walk right there:confused:. I made a quick...
