    Lehman 80-HP

I have one in a 35 foot ex-fishing boat. *It had a 160 hp Isuzu truck engine in it when I got the boat and I swapped it out for a 30 year old 80hp Ford that came out of a 45 foot sailboat for a re-power. *It runs fine and average speed is 6-6.5 knots and I estimate around 4-5 litres per hour...

    Lehman Starting Issues

Hi I'm still here. *Actually the boat is not finished, apart from using it as a tow boat a couple of months ago it has sat on it's mooring for the last ten months. *My mother had a stroke late last year and the boat took a back seat for a while as I was too busy between work, kids and trips back...

    Lehman Starting Issues

Normally the adjustment screw is round the back of the pump in between the engine block and the pump. If I remember right you need quite a long screw driver to do it. You cannot see it in the picture posted. Have a look and see with a torch. Cheers, Leon.

    First overnight trip

Well, we finally did our first overnight trip on our trawler conversion. *Very much like camping on the sea but great fun none the less. *We went south of Phuket originally planning to anchor at an island about 22 NM from our mooring. *However we were late leaving, it was quite rough and I had...

    how much hp to plane?

Sea horse, Do you get full RPM at WOT and what is your speed at that stage, also how does the hull feel at that time in terms of trim and attitude? *You should be able to tell from the fuel you are burning at cruise how much horsepower you are using and get a better idea of how you are loading...

Time for a break from working on the boat.

Morning,Had a rainy Sunday so instead going out to a beach took the kids for a cruise in our small boat up into the fishing port to look at the fishing boats and ferries. *I took a bunch of pictures while I was there (sorry I did not photo shop out the grey sky) some to show how the bow goes...

    Cruising Spare Parts

I have very basic spares on board right now but have just recently picked up a complete motor and gearbox the same as mine that have come out of a sailboat to make way for a new engine. *They are still on the shelf at work but I plan to pull off common fail items and service and protect them to...

Time for a break from working on the boat.

Hi Marin, Sorry I have been away from a computer for a few days, weekends we stay at our beach place which is basic and not connected which is good actually. *Did some more boating with a crowd of neighbours and kids out on the boat on Sunday then a BBQ at the house. Regarding the high bow it...

Time for a break from working on the boat.

Hi Marin, thanks for the feedback.* So far there are very few systems on the boat and most of the last series of work has been carpentry and painting.* Engine and drive train are working well, I now have a decent complement of gauges to monitor the engine and that lets me push it a bit a more...

    Marine Trader BW Transmission troubles

Sounds like the forward clutch plates are slipping, maybe that the pump is faulty and not producing enough pressure until it is spinning faster but it is more likely your plates are worn or burnt/shiny. *Generally will need pulling from the boat but parts are readily available for these gears...

Time for a break from working on the boat.

Thanks, their mum was actually asleep inside at that point. *But it would be me that would have to jump in and get them...........Anyway they have a healthy fear of falling in, especially the littlest one and they hold TIGHT

Time for a break from working on the boat.

We have made a lot of progress on the trawler conversion but I feel it is time to take a little break and use it a bit before the last push. *Plus I need to stop spending for a while and catch up on neglected things like kids health insurance! * Yesterday I took it out of the marina and back...

    Thai Trawler Painting

Still busy finishing off the wheelhouse and other projects. *Have a railing on the roof now and a mast for lights, antennas etc, bigger than necessary but I think it suits the style of the boat. *Hopefully one more week in the marina then I can get it out again. *Here is a shot from yesterday.

    Thai Trawler - Wheelhouse

Thanks for the feedback. *I was very happy to get the boat moving again today, took it out from the mud berth in front of the carpenter's shop and brought it up to the marina where I work. *Felt great driving in the new wheelhouse, although it was a little spoilt by the fact that turning the...

    Thai Trawler - Wheelhouse

Wheelhouse carpentry work is now finished. *We are now focussing on external painting, must admit I am doing a very basic work boat finish with no fairing, but am using two pack local International paint. Also want to get started on a railing on top of the wheelhouse this week and adjust the...

    Thai Trawler - Wheelhouse

A few more progress pics. *Work has slowed this week as the carpenters had a few dramas elsewhere but looks like today the started again. *I am looking forward to getting the boat moving soon and having in floating all the time rather than stuck in the mud! I am aware of the pitfalls of the...
