Normally the adjustment screw is round the back of the pump in between the engine block and the pump. If I remember right you need quite a long screw driver to do it. You cannot see it in the picture posted. Have a look and see with a torch. Cheers, Leon.

Sounds like the forward clutch plates are slipping, maybe that the pump is faulty and not producing enough pressure until it is spinning faster but it is more likely your plates are worn or burnt/shiny. *Generally will need pulling from the boat but parts are readily available for these gears...
