    Alternative for 5200/4300

Brain, Like many products, not every market is gone after by the manufacturer. You could take the product, repackage and put "marine" all over it, do a few tests and triple the $$..It's that easy.. That does not make it any better, only way more expensive.. 3M 5200 is a great product, but the...

    House Battery Bank for everything??

DC power Distribution The attached DC Power distribution diagram is our preferred way with a twin engine vessel & one generator. Of course there are variations but the general idea here is if one system goes poo-poo, it does not affect the other.. Key points are you always know the battery...

    House Battery Bank for everything??

Let's try this to understand my thinking process differently............. If you have an engine that requires electrical power to keep it running (any diesel that is "energize to run", why would you want any other electrical system on the boat to be part of that, or what I typically say, "talk...

    House Battery Bank for everything??

Is your engine "energize to run" ??.. That one question answers all if you have a diesel and one of the reasons you have one is "reliability" .. Just ask Rudolf if you do not understand what I am coming form.. Tony

    Alternative for 5200/4300

I do not know if this helps, but for well over 20 years, we have been using moisture cured polyurethane sealants from TREMCO and will never look back.. I learned the science behind them & avoided all the "marine hype" and associated "marine costs" about what they are all about way back.. As...

RPM's And Fuel Used Per Mile

Not to discount all of the tests I have seen like this, but none of them take into account "real ocean conditions".........................Add a light average 2-3 ft head seas and 10-15 Kts of wind and the numbers would drop at a least 25% over a 24 hour run.. Put some nasty weather (up or...

    Cummins 5.9 Engine installation angle

Answer these questions: 1) Your coolant temp after you have been running for at least 1 hour--Cruise RPM above 1600 RPM, and at idle or very low RPM's.. 2) Total hours since new? 3) You said you had the injectors rebuilt----Can you give me any accurate details and to what that required or...

Blue smoke on start up: 6BTA

Add this much overlooked point-------------oil temps really need to get above 200F as soon as possible to free the oil of excess moisture.. If running slow for hours on end, it's always best to get the engine up to a high cruise HP load so the oil temp rises for a few minutes at the very least...

Blue smoke on start up: 6BTA

If these are high wattage coolant immersion heaters, then I would be very cautious about leaving them plugged in all the time regardless of a thermostat or timer, and especially so if "original from decades ago".. I went that route up to about 10-12 yrs ago and after seeing so many issues with...

Blue smoke on start up: 6BTA

Lou, you are missing what I am saying.. I did not say anything about idling your diesel once it gets up to operating temp after RUNNING under loaded conditions ( LIKE GOING ON A TRIP).. What I am saying is to not run it at an idle ( or even above an idle) when it is not up to full operating...

Since I posted, I think most of this has been sorted out based on your answers to questions 1,2, & 3………………….This is where you are – Your operation is really bringing on your own issues.. 1) Quit trying to warm your boat up at the dock.. Do all your prelims before you start the engine.. Maybe a...
