    Over heating

Stop and check if it is really overheating, a bad sending unit or gauge is cheap. Use a heat scanner gun to check several points on the engine and cooling system. You should have one for hourly checks and they are cheap. Start with easy stuff first, then work up. If really overheating I...

Sorry all, it's my wife's fault.

Been a while since I have posted but have been around off and on for a good while. My wife just retired March 31, so now you know why the economy crashed. We have been looking forward to heading out and cruising for years just to be stuck at the dock waiting on things to get to some semblance...

    Fridge Optimizer

Thank you FF, but I know about the dollar bill trick and how moist air enters a fridge, my guess is most here do as well. My unit is less then 2 years old and so seals are good. Sometimes new technologies do work and work well.

    Fridge Optimizer

I have had one of these SL units for 2 years just about. It indeed has reduced the energy used by the 2500 series Vitrifrigo unit I have it attached to It reduces the frost to such a degree that it is near frost free depending on your operating condition and door open time. Here in muggy...

    Space junk

It is a Reims Rocket 1969 FR-172F https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reims_Aviation 172 with big engine and CS prop I had a stol kit and 25gal aux tank added. I did not have it at the time, I was in Civil Air Patrol at the time working the show. We were camping on the South end with the worker...

    Water pump problem?

I always have a spare pump, I use the same type pump with quick connect water fittings and prewire a polarized plug to it so I can change out the pump in less then 3 min. Yep they never go out when it's a good time.

What you do in real life?

24 years as a General Contractor and Developer in Florida, now I am a tour boat Captain both on a 12 passenger air-boat on a nearby freshwater marsh and inshore saltwater sightseeing on the Indian River Lagoon on the boat you see in my avatar. I did a stint as a Registered Nurse for 5 years...

China made bilge pump, what do you think?

One is none, two is one. I would recommend several installed regardless of manufacture. I have some Chinamart power tools that I planed to use once and toss as the conditions they were going to be used in were horrendous (one was even dropped in salt water) and they are still working 5 years...

    Voltage Mystery

Why did someone say "unlikely" to a bad meter? I have replaced two panel meters that were bad due to 30 years around salt air. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to diagnose and fix this problem. Check the voltage at the 2 contacts going into the meter (so easy a caveman could do it) if it's...

    Capacity of 2 6-volt Batteries?

Just a point but you should have a charger that puts out 10-15 percent of the battery capacity so a 40 amp charger is not going to do the job unless you are willing to charge for 24+ hours. I am going to an Inverter/Charger as that seems to be the best way to get a big charger price wise...

    Hurricane Matthew?

Just a quick post as we just got power and internet back. We made it with no damage a testament to a great location (Loggerhead Marina at Grand Harbor in Vero Beach) and 16 3/4 inch lines with proper chafe protection and boat prep. No damage!!

    Hurricane Matthew?

Still have power here in Vero Beach as of now, center is 50 miles due east and winds are gusting 70-80 right now. Hang in there folks, worrying about everyone in state north of us. Will get to the boat asap in AM.

How Often Should I Run Engines And Gen.

This may extend the life of the cooling system but the engines are most n likely already fresh water cooled. FYI If you do this remember to remove the zincs as they will not like long term operation in fresh water. Remember magnesium is the choice for fresh water systems and zinc can be...

    What hp??

Twisting force is torque, HP is a measure of work over a period of time. I can show you a huge 3 cylinder diesel that make 1000's of pounds of Tq yet has less then 100hp, it runs at 125 to 400 RPM, it is an old power-plant diesel that would fill a 2 car garage. So while related are not the...

30A vs 50A Twist Lock vs Smart Plugs

Prepare to have that on a survey as a must replace item. I would also wonder what the insurance company would say if their was ever a problem, probably not an issue but why do it? Is it better/cheaper then the accepted, available stuff?

what should replace my old HVAC?

Ask your marine AC guy what the computer board cost on the Dometic unit, all the electrical components in the OB units are large relays and are available over the counter at any dirt house AC shop and no microprocessors anywhere to be found.

    Miami insanity

Oh yes lets ban something that people enjoy, sounds good until they hit you with the ban hammer. I bet you enjoy things that others think should be banned. Freedom for the win.:banghead: I think the word "Banned" should be banned. As far as Ammonia, please cite sources.:nonono: Urine takes...

    heating: reverse cycle vs electric

One of each? Use as needed. I like the option of heating an area (birth) if I'm on the hard and have no water to circulate of if away and not wanting to leave a sea-valve open. It is a good question, I will be interested in your choice. I agree with many who say elect or reverse heating is...
