    Boat search is over....

Nice! I hope for a more classic looking Trawler like yours. So far, just looking at layouts a 1990-ish Silverton 402 or a Carver of the same vintage. Not exactly our 'style', but layouts are great. (aside from poor engine access) Our house is a 1927 Craftsman style some....lots of wood work...

    Boat search is over....

Thanks! I've owned enough machinery in my life I never expect to come out unscathed. :) The way I am looking at it is we would finance it....either with a broker or add to our line of credit. The interest and principal payment is the same as if we rented a condo or something for a year. We have...

Congrats on your trip! I completely 'get' that feeling of freedom and adventure. We have replaced our backpacks with rolling suitcases. It took awhile to not feel guilty about that, but we're good now.

    Boat search is over....

I've driven boats for 30+ years, motor and sail. As a contractor I've driven all types of equipment. Work with my hands and have some common sense. (so I tell myself) Put a million miles in a semi in my late teens/early 20's. Expect some lessons and mistakes in the beginning, but not too...

    Boat search is over....

Well.....Iied. After deep diving into Trawlers and the lifestyle I decided it wasn't for us. We did buy a recreational property and are building a cottage. However.....this trawler idea has been niggling in the back of my mind over and over. This summer my wife brought it up as she heard a...

    Boat search is over....

Great responses...thanks. Maybe I should have said, "No boat, for now". The property is in a small community on the lake with a beautiful golf course. As a contractor I don't fuss too much about maintenance. We have some rental properties and my plan was to remortgage, own a boat for a...

    Boat search is over....

No Boat. After a deep dive into this we decided to buy a recreational property. My greatest hang up was owning a relatively expensive depreciating asset that we planned to use part time. With a property we continue to build assets and will charter instead. I'll keep lurking around the forum...

    What's up with YachtWorld? $$

Looking at boats in the 100K range. As I've researched a few different brands over the last few months it seems a high % of boats on Yachtworld are priced higher than what I find of Facebook Market place, Search Tempest, Kijiji, broker sights...etc.... Opinions?

    Cracked glass replacement

Typically you would remove screws and carefully cut away the silicone (or marine sealant) holding the frame in place. That would expose the track the window is in. Clean out all the sealant to get a good seal when replacing. Careful to take your time and not bend frame when removing. I...

How of 'get aboard' a variety of boats?

You bet. That list changes and the compromises are tough. Purpose is to Snowbird Bahamas or Keys. That's the main focus. Not saying further travel hasn't been talked about, but we are sticking to the meat of it. I started out looking at 50'-60' boats. Then went to 35'-40' boats with the...

How of 'get aboard' a variety of boats?

Agreed. I think chartering for a week is more about getting a feel for the experience, not as much about boat shopping. I like the idea of finding a AirBnB in a big marina. Fly down for a weekend, walk the docks, do some sight seeing. Informal. Is there a common Looper staging point? Seems...

Her new job adopted her 22 year pension. Perfect fit for her skillset with education opportunities, 4 years she will be earning double what she is now and its located a 15 min walk from our house. As you say....will be worth it.

How of 'get aboard' a variety of boats?

Hear ya! When we were 30 years old we sold our house and 'stuff' and took off traveling for a year and more. Everest base camp, rented Russian Minsk's in North Vietnam, mopeded (not a word I know) from north to south India, driving 4x4's on sketchy roads in Tibet during monsoon season...ect...

How of 'get aboard' a variety of boats?

Great boat and great location. (to me) Definitely checks off a lot of boxes for us. You are right that we are at tire kicking stage. At 56 my wife was just offered her 'dream job'. We plan for her to pull the pin at 61-65. I'm a self employed contractor so I plan to quit when my health forces...

How of 'get aboard' a variety of boats?

"Winterpeg"....well done. Yup, a 'date weekend' is kind of what I am thinking. Fly down to a big marina, have a connection that would help us just 'take a peak'. My last two boats I bought through meeting people on a forum. Drove to Minneapolis and Cincinnati to get them.

How of 'get aboard' a variety of boats?

Virtual boat shopping has been an interesting journey. We live central prairies Canada so we expect to travel get further on our boat inquiry. Chartering will probably happen, but we're not there yet. Tips on how we could view and board a variety of trawlers? We're in no hurry, so annual...

Guest drinking underway - what's your rule?

Why is there a historical relationship between boating and drinking? Most boat (may I include sailboat on this topic?) manufacturers have 'bars' , 'wet bars', 'beer/cocktail fridges', etc....its a selling point. In general, motorhomes don't have that. Camping trailers, 5th wheel's don't have...

Why no Bayliner in "Trawlers Builders" section?

Agreed. Further that is the comments that the engines are louder due to their location and lack (relative to others) of insulation. A roomier engine room is much more appealing than lifting the living room floor. Compromises.

Why no Bayliner in "Trawlers Builders" section?

In the grand scheme of things 'they' check the boxes. I'd be open to either/or at this point. - assessable swim platform (direct step, no ladder) - Galley up - Pilothouse with multiple levels of accommodation. - large open bow deck - decent cockpit - Lot of light

Why no Bayliner in "Trawlers Builders" section?

Agreed, for what we would want to use it for (coastal, Bahamas) it has a lot of room, galley up, different / separate sitting areas, etc... Nothing specific...Always enjoy a less humongous conversation.

Why no Bayliner in "Trawlers Builders" section?

lol...that was tongue in cheek. I've gone to the Bayliners Owners Group, but they are all "Bayliner this....", and "Bayliner that....".

    Comodave update 2

Hey Dave, I'm new to this forum, but have participated in other forums. These virtual communities can be consuming. It's definitely a different way to communicate than our every day communication. Even fast typers, type slower than we talk. We don't sit and think about what someone said for...

Why no Bayliner in "Trawlers Builders" section?

That's interesting. I assumed since I see many Bayliner avatars and comments regarding Bayliner it would have be a different reason. I guess the boating worlds 'love to hate' Bayliner keeps owners in the closet. In my air chair search I keep coming back to the 4588/4788.
