    Boat Salvage

We will just have to agree to disagree. I stand by my statement as accurate. Sea Tow does not include salvage in it's membership, period.

Do you need two sets of controls on a liveaboard?

There is another aspect not mentioned here and that is if all your guests or crew are down below keeping warm, that might be where you want to be enjoying a nice snack and hot coffee with them. I only have radar on flybridge and we just got back from some night travel in the SF Bay where radar...

    Bow or Stern Thruster

The MS350 absolutely needs a thruster. Learned the first time bringing her up from Santa Barbara and tried to get in a slip at Monterey. Little rudder, windage and no way she would turn into the slip without the thruster. Now can back her between two sterned in boats but I wud still like a stern...

    Boat Salvage

Ok, I got the skinny from Sea Tow on vessel recovery. Yes, Sea Tow does recovery, No they do not cover it on your membership so it becomes an "out of pocket" cost that must be covered by you or your insurance. In my case of the 13' boat, it was covered under a Homeowner's policy by Safeco but...

    Boat Salvage

I agree it is sometimes easy to see someone who has not had a lot of boating experience. Actually, before Vessel Assist became BoatUS, I was good friends with the local office and they did boat recovery. Therewas a very public incident on TV where he was caught under a derelict vessel he was...

    Boat Salvage

I stand corrected. I called the 1 (800) number. Assumed the office was in Fl, my bad. You now have me thinking and I am going to call Sea Tow tomorrow and see what I get. It will be interesting, and I will come back with their answer.

    Boat Salvage

Sea Tow does not operate in California. They subcontract to BoatUS formally known as Vessel Assist. But the refusal to raise the sunk boat had nothing to do with them subcontracting. Both companies work as subcontractors of the other when only the one company has assets in the area. I just had...

    Boat Salvage

This may be true but my experience was calling Sea Tow number in Florida, not a local shop. I was told out right they would not engage in recovery of a sunk boat. All I can say is this was my experience about 4-5 years ago. Maybe I should have asked to talk to someone higher up the food chain...

    Boat Salvage

In California, I had a small 13ft boat flip and sink at the dock while I was in Hawaii. Sea Tow said they did not do recovery of sunk boats. They would tow it once it was up but not touch a sunk boat. Same with Safeco Ins. They cover theft, damage, but not sinking. Check your policies.

    MS350 WINDLASS MANUAL RETRIEVAL

This is what mine looks like. I can’t find any designations on it but same spline, clutch and lack of any way I can see to adapt a manual retrieval.

    Fantasy islands

Back when we were much much younger, we were working on a deal with a cruiser/movie cameraman to make that Hobie cat adventure into a movie sort of like the "Endless Summer" surfing movie. Problem is even with our own 35mm camera, cameraman, free use of chase boats and us free actors, you still...

    Bow thruster incident

The thruster motor usually has 2 solenoids like the old Ford starter solenoids mounted on the starter, one for port, one for Stbd. For emergency, just tap solenoid with hammer and it probably will disengage, or do as you did and turn the switch. You can find the p/n and order a new solenoid...

    Rear-View Mirrors

I too use the ski boat mirror mounted on bimini bow on fly bridge. They really help when in a narrow channel and a larger faster vessel is overtaking. You can move to the side and be ready to cut back across the wake.

Have friends that that is what they wud do, buy a car SUV they cud camp with in NZ or wherever, use it for a month or 2 then sell as they leave. Many times they sold it back to the seller. No reason you can't do same with a boat. Going another way, I have seen a guy with a beautifully varnished...

    Fantasy islands

Did both Galapagos and Antartica. Unfortunately, did Antartica before Galapagos. The spectacle of Antartica kind of took the beauty out of Galapagos. People got excited seeing 2 penguins in Galapagos where we sat on a beach surrounded by half a million penguins in Antarctic. Hands down...

    Fantasy islands

We spent a couple of weeks there and the rides to the dive sites were worth the cost of the dive. Thousands of little islets, bays, and anchorages. Enuff for a year of gunkholing. Probably will not get back now but it had everything to fit my requirements.

    Source for Caterpillar Impellers

Little late but learned the Sherwood 17000K is the same impeller. But I just bought from Cat ($88) since I needed the seal and might as well get them at same place, same time. Internet has the 17000Ks for $50-60 many places.

MINOR REPAIR KIT FOR SHERWOOD WATERPUMP

Finally just bite the bullet and ordered from Cat. Expensive but will be here in 2 days. Did not get much help from Sherwood as there are 2 different shafts and they require different seals. Parts guy couldn't help on identifying the shaft so we guessed that this is a standard shaft and not...

MINOR REPAIR KIT FOR SHERWOOD WATERPUMP

Anyone have a recommended source for the repair kit for a Sherwood Sea Water pump on a 3116 Cat? Pump is a P/N P1710-02 Sherwood, 4P7168 Cat. The repair kit is a 23973 Sherwood P/N? Depco and Defender were recommended by Sherwood but they not seem to have in stock.

Help. Ford Lehman Dies at worst of times

I ditto not focusing on the water pump. It most likely is a Red Herring. I don't know how many times I have shut boat down running fine and then the next day like magic it won't run. It most likely is a failure like that, totally unrelated to the water pump. Isn't boating fun!!!!

POR 15 Tank Sealer for a gas tank?

I have repaired black iron and aluminum tanks. On the black metal I used KBS numetal to fill holes in bottom of tank. Was able to treat via large access hole in top of tank as removal of tank was not possible. On the Aluminum tank I couldn't get out of the boat, I was turned on to a product...

    MS350 WINDLASS MANUAL RETRIEVAL

I cannot find a P/N on my Lewmar windlass on my 1997 MS350. Newer model Lewmar windlass's have manual retrieval kits that can be placed on the windlass to bring up the anchor with a wench handle if the windlass motor dies or battery/electrical somehow fails. Do any of you older MS350 owners have...

New Owner 1997 Mainship 34 Motor Yacht

This last week we came upon another interesting electrical wiring situation with our MS350. We have 3 batteries, the typical bank 1 and 2 in the engine room and a third located under the main stateroom bed for the bow thruster and I thought the windlass. Well, around 3 am we had an anchor fire...

Under insured in Florida and it's not right!

Same with me and progressive and my 1997 MS350. A real problem with under insured is suppose you have $10k damages, insured for $14k but boat worth $30k, they total boat instead of doing repairs then sell salvage for say $10k. You get $14k out a boat and they only out $4k. This happens all the...
