    solar or generator?

You got that right I'm moving onto my boat and not going camping, the admiral is not going to rough it going anywhere. I'm thinking a diesel generator, solar panels to pick up any slack and keep the batteries at near full and possibly even putting a dockbox on top of the aft cabin with an extra...

    Interesting near collision

Not enough information but I would have to side with the cargo ship not knowing. Where is the channel? Looks like a lot of current. In most cases I would side with sail over power in such cases but not with a ship that big in a canal. He likely must do what he is doing and the little guy...

    Where should I live???

Yes I have found I can't live without a boat. I'm contemplating retirement and moving south but condos are 300k minimum and they don't move around when you want to go someplace else. For half that I can find a 2 bedroom that takes me to the Bahamas a couple months out of the year. I have...

    Where should I live???

Once again, I learn something with every post or reply. Very true that many if not most engine troubles are fuel related and if that's the case a second engine isn't much good. All those other parts you mention is why I look for those boats where they have been overhauled in the not so distant...

    Where should I live???

I think that's what I have nightmares about, the dockhand yelling "third row down, 5th slip on the left!" and I'm driving a 40ft single screw, no thruster, and it's blowing 20 knots. No thanks, I'll anchor out.

    Where should I live???

First off, thank you very much for your reply. It seems every time I post something here I learn something. First off, of course it would be a fiberglass GB, they went glass in 1973 I believe and everything I've looked at is 1988-1999. Second, yes I know the teak is a nightmare and it's why I...

    Where should I live???

I was born and lived on the Jersey shore (Bay Head) then moved and lived in Ft Lauderdale for 20 some years and now I've been living on the Chesapeake for nearly 30 years (Chester river). Strange that I also am about to retire and purchase a trawler and live on it. I will be on the Chesapeake...

Boat names that just have to be shared.

I have a 21 ft fishing boat that I use to troll around the Chesapeake and I was a football player on a team where we were the Dragons. I call it "Dragon lines". A mistake, nobody gets it.

Boat names that just have to be shared.

I knew a guy who named his boat "Choir Practice" and he was in his church's choir. He said this way his wife never gave him a hard time when he said he was going to choir practice.

Boat names that just have to be shared.

I watched a beautiful Swan 65 sail by me a few years ago and as it passed I could see the name, "Blow Me". I thought kinda funny but how could you?

    New member, starting research

Thank you and that sounds like sound advice. After focusing on the classic 36 it seems you are looking at a project boat if it's under 100k and I don't mind a little work but I am not looking for a nightmare. I have decided twin screws as maneuvering with a single screw is a pain. I would...

I'm considering the same but with the cost of such a lease (if you can find one) is astronomical. I'm thinking more along the lines of a well maintained Europa style trawler and been searching far and wide for the right one.

    Grand Banks 32 Sedan

I find the GB 32 to be one of the sharpest of the GB fleet but without an exit next to the helm it makes it kind of out of the question.
