I love this design. It looks very effective.

    Force 10 Wall Oven

I have a built in force ten oven and cooktop combo. Have been very happy with it for live aboard use. It doesn’t require much clearance at all. This oven only model must have some sort of vent, hopefully out the front. The drawings aren’t really clear. Biggest difference between this one and...

    New(?) Anti-corrosive

No real information regarding ingredients. Just a lot of claims. Likely a lanolin based product. I’ve used fluid film to prevent bare metal from rusting outdoors with good luck, this might work the same. Treated metal must be cleaned before painting though, and that can be tough. I’ve also had...

Bow thruster not producing much thrust

I don’t like running so much extra cable for high power devices like that. If you want to keep a helm disconnect, repurpose the switch to activate a remote solenoid/disconnect that enables the thruster.

    New(?) Anti-corrosive

Reminds me of fluid film. I looked at the website and couldn’t find any actual p sheet or msds sheets.

    Rudder Post leak

Splash zone is a great product. It won’t cure the root cause in this instance, but can be used as a temporary measure till you fix it properly. You will need to get the area clean though, so it bonds well. If there’s movement from the hull flexing or strain on the rudder post, you need to solve...

    Question related to wood fixture

It’s very likely that there are more than one devices fed by that circuit. Instead of putting a small terminal strip to land the wires on, someone decided to put two wires into one spade terminal and tape the crap out of it. Sloppy work.

reverse polarity light on, only when inverting?

The screen shot when on shore power appears normal. But obviously something is off if it isn’t showing a charge when the engine is running. Especially if the batteries never go below 100%. Any new ac appliances? Any chance the RP light was on before and just not noticed? The charging indication...

Do you need two sets of controls on a liveaboard?

We find that as liveaboards we prefer the raised pilothouse style. Your inside and protected, but still have great visibility. Access via stairs to the salon. Only three steps for the admiral to bring my morning coffee. Full beam salon makes great use of the space and the pilothouse is a “spare...

    Remote oil filter line leak

What a crappy design. It’s hard to tell, but it looks like there’s an adapter on the top fitting that’s probably supposed to extend the top fitting outward enough to enable tightening the fitting without fouling on the bottom one. You might be able to get a longer adapter to push it out a little...

reverse polarity light on, only when inverting?

Only thing I have to say is to be careful with that inverter till you get it sorted. When I bought my current boat, the po had an inverter installed improperly. Hot and neutral swapped on the terminal strip. This energized the case of the inverter with 120 volts. I got bit hard when I had one...

Solar Installation on 37 Pilot House

I feel the same way. If you want to cut out generator run time, you need more house bank capacity. I have 1125 ah capacity. Before adding solar, I could last two nights before starting an engine. With solar, I can recover a big portion of the daily consumption. Sometimes I can recover all of it...

Using solar mppt charge controller as a DC to DC charger

Surely it must have been discussed, but I don’t know if mppt controllers can limit the current they receive. Typically you match the mppt to the amount of panels you have so that the current and voltage line up without overwhelming the mppt charger. If the mppt can’t limit the current then you...

Fiberglass hull paint prep - simulated plank joint grooves

Plank lines are a pain in the rear, that’s for sure. There are sander attachments for oscillating tools, and there’s a tool by porter cable called a profile sander that have the right shape tote in there, but I actually prefer to use hand sanding blocks. I have a bunch of different shapes of...

Bow thruster not producing much thrust

I’m in the same situation with my older vetus thruster, but my cables are bigger and shorter. It’s just an old, underpowered unit. Talking to Florida thruster, they say a boat my size (40 feet) should have a 95kgf thruster. That’s what my stern thruster is, and it’s amazing. The 185 mm tunnel...

Solar Installation on 37 Pilot House

Different boat, but same basic idea. I have a raised pilothouse and have two 385 watt panels up there. Huge difference. I still run at a deficit, but I can easily last three or more days before having to start an engine. My main draws are the same as yours, but also add in microwave and coffee...

    Automatic Power Selector... why?

Interesting use of an aps device. I guess the installer was concerned about the solenoids dropping out from voltage drop. Doesn’t hurt I guess, until it fails. If it’s easy to get to I’d leave it alone.

    Raw water temperature or pressure?

It would depend on where the sensors are located. If you measure temp just before the elbow it would be a good indicator of issues. Once you have a base line temperature you can monitor for change. I do this with my exhaust temperature and it lets me know if the strainer or impeller needs...

    Bow thruster incident

Agree with Dave, the solenoid contacts are probably welded together. My advice would be to change both. Especially if it’s tough to access.

    GB 36 rudder authority

Different boats will just have different backing characteristics. I have a good friend who says that no matter where the rudder is pointed his boat backs straight. He wishes it backed to one side or the other so he could count on that for docking. Be careful what you wish for.

I seriously doubt the buzzer is causing a problem with you dc supply. Maybe explain the trouble you’re having?

noisy water heat blower type sirroco for webasto

Does it whine at all speeds? I wonder if using a regulated dc power supply might change the speed enough to reduce the sound. Change the voltage and the speed changes with it. Alternatively, I wonder if a pwm fan control might let you dial it down.

Composite thru hulls: good or bad idea ?

On my last boat, ( steel hull) I changed all my skin fittings and valves to marelon. I don’t know if the design has been changed over the years, but the ones I bought were well made, heavy duty, and inspired confidence. My surveyor was very happy with them. Used gpo3 for backers, completely...
