Where is your "home" port and tell us a little about it..

We pay $7100/yr for an outside side tie berth. This includes 2000kw of electricity. Reed Point has it's pros and cons. It is one of the less expensive marinas in Vancouver proper. There are cheaper ones, but they are mostly up the Fraser River.

Where is your "home" port and tell us a little about it..

We hail from Port Moody, BC. Our boat is moored at Reed Point Marina. Port Moody is basically part of the metro Vancouver area. Vancouver is an amazing and diverse location, with a lot of natural beauty surrounding it. Many people in Vancouver are even unaware of some of it. The pictures below...

The value of hiring a captain

I hired two Captains to bring my boat up (with me on board) from Alameda to Point Roberts, WA. We stopped in Eureka and Port Garibaldi, but I never took the helm in close quarters. After the delivery was made the captains went back to California. A week later my sister and family came on the...

For Sale: 2005 Defever Pilothouse on the market

Honestly, I couldn't replace this boat. It is an amazing boat and I am bitter sweet about selling her. I have a different story than many perhaps. In my 20s, I had cancer twice. One of them involved radiation treatment in my abdomen area. I am totally healthy now at age 46, but try to...

    Bedding compound

I took a Power Squadron "boat maintenance" course a while back. The instructors swore by Butyl Tape for re-bedding. Many of you have probably seen this, but here is a great 'how to' site using Butyl Tape: Re-Bedding Deck Hardware Photo Gallery by Compass Marine at pbase.com

    Sorry Broker, Just Looking

I have only had one big boat and that is the one I have now. When I was first looking, I spoke with a number of brokers, none of which seemed to take me seriously. I was 42, talking about buying a Trawler in the $500K range. I was not exactly sure right away what I wanted, and I am sure I had...

    Offers to purchase

I bought my boat out of US a couple years ago and used the following services SCOTT-MONCRIEFF AND COMPANY » BRYAN SCOTT-MONCRIEFF Marine Documentation Service, Inc. In the US, they did lien searches and deleted from US registries, as well as handled the transfer of funds. The Canadian...

    New LED Lighting

A few months ago I replaced about 45 halogen g4 type bulbs...total cost about $110 and about 45minutes of my time. The light is warm. Not quite as bright as halogens, but certainly acceptable with much less power draw and no heat. Direct from China factory floor g4 - Free Shipping - DX :thumb:

    Water under Varnish...need advice

When i apply pressure with my hand on the varnish, the water seeps out of a couple tiny pinholes around where the joints are on the rails. When I strip those spots, I think I will sand down the joints to smooth them before re-sealing with varnish.

    Water under Varnish...need advice

Mike, that is exactly what I did last year. If someone does not affirm my possible miracle solution, I guess I will strip the affected areas and build from scratch.

    Water under Varnish...need advice

Over the course of our typically wet PNW winter, 3-4 spots on my teak cap rails have water intrusion underneath the varnish. This has only happened in the past few weeks, as I do a regular inspection. Last year I had a similar thing happen in a couple spots. To fix last year, I took a heat...

    North Pacific Yachts

When I was looking at boats, I looked seriously at the NPs. There are many of them in the PNW as Trevor Brice lives in the Vancouver area. So, the company is Canadian owned, but boats are built in China. I think for the price, you get a lot of boat. Having said that, after going on 4-5 used...

    Winter boat use.

In the winter I go out every 5-6 weeks or so. My winter crew is usually 2-3 buddies that like to sit by a wood burning stove in the middle of nowhere, eat like kings, drink large quantities of rum and beer, listen to tunes and chat about life. Sometimes, we will just cruise to a marina in...

    Blistering above waterline

It is hard to see....but you can see the shiny Defever insignia below and to the right of where it says BIG TUNA midship. It is screwed on with 4-5 screws. There is a tiny bit of rust staining around the screws. There is no blistering above the insignia, just directly below. I will have the...

    Blistering above waterline

Actually, I do believe that area may be painted. I had a tiny piece chip off near where it meets the teak handrail. It seemed quite thin, like paint rather than Gelcoat.

    Blistering above waterline

I recently found a patch about one foot wide by two feet long with many tiny blisters. This is on the upper sides of my boat, just below the metal Defever 49 sign that is screwed into the hull. I am pretty certain it is from water getting into the screw holes. The screws obviously need to be...

    Wanted: 44-49 Defever

49' Defever rph possibly for sale I have been thinking of placing my boat for sale. It is a 2005 with a full suite of options and is in immaculate condition and meticulously maintained. It is out of your stated price range, but is an exceptional vessel for anyone looking for a great trawler...

    What's the best trawler show?

    Your annual $ numbers

THD has very similar numbers to me and my boat is just north of $400k. My fuel, marina and insurance are less. I personally would not finance a boat purchase. BUT, to buy my boat to fulfill a life goal, I made some dramatic changes in my life. You can't have everything. So, I sold my...
