    temporary/backup anchor light

Greetings, My regular, wired anchor light has become temperamental and I'm looking for a backup until I can get it sorted out. Ideally, something USCG compliant that is battery powered (solar would be ideal) and that I can haul up the mast with the halyard. Haven't found quite what I have in...

    Certainly 5/8.

Resurrecting this thread to ask if anyone has any additional info or ideas on how to tighten spokes on GB wheels. Thanks!

    Stuck windows on GB

Yes, it’s likely gunk and eau de crud that’s gumming up the works. Get a large, glass-lifting suction cup (such as https://www.harborfreight.com/4-12-in-80-lb-suction-cup-lifter-59690.html) to get some leverage to get it moving. This works well. Once loose, use old fashioned pipe cleaners...

    prop nuts

Are reverse threads (LH) on prop nuts common? What about the case of counter rotating twins - is one side LH and the other side RH threaded? Just an inquiring mind …

    Moss in window tracks

+1 on diluted bleach and qtip. I don’t use silicone spray to lubricate the tracks, because I worry about overspray messing things up the next time I go to do bright work. Bar soap rubbed into the track seems to work well and one good treatment usually lasts the season.

    Lowering Grand Banks Mast

Similarly, what are thoughts about the attachment point(s) on the fly ridge? For me the current radar unit is older (heavier) and there’s more weight on the mast that others might have.

    GB 36 holding tank replacement

I’m looking at replacing the holding tank on a 36’ Grand Banks Classic (1989) and wondering if anyone in the forum has experience with this job? The tank in this layout (twin Cummins) is behind and partially under the generator. Comments, cautions, and hints all very welcome!

    Swim Platform Replacement

I recommend Butler Marine Products: https://butlermarine.com/ He did a fantastic job on a new platform for my boat, and I couldn't be more pleased.

GB 36 deck drain holes obstructed

Exactly right, Koliver -- the water tanks were light, and filling them helped the issue but did not solve it. I'm on the path to installing drains at the boarding gate locations, and would be interested in thoughts and cautions on doing it.

GB 36 deck drain holes obstructed

Resurrecting this slightly aged thread: I have wet decks at this spot on my boat (a 1989 36 CL) and am hoping that clogged drain holes are the problem as well as the solution. But, um, I’m not seeing any (drains, that is). Does anyone know if the design change for the 36 in the mid-80’s did...

    Adding cameras

Turns out that the Blink outdoor cams also do not support a mirrored display, which further sours their use for backup.

    Adding cameras

Scottwb, many thanks for the comments on Reolink as I have been looking at their PTZ also. Do you happen to know if it has a mirror image mode, which would let it be used like a “conventional” backup camera? And FWIW, the Wyze Outdoor Cam does not have that capability (mirroring display, that...

Dual action, random orbital sander recommendation

I have the same project as Pat T coming up, and I’m curious about approaches for the first step, which is trimming down the seams where they stand proud. What’s the best way (or tool) to do that?

    Back up Camera

I’ve been looking for a backup camera solution and came across this slightly cold thread. I’m intrigued by the thought of using a wireless, battery or battery/solar powered PTZ security camera like Paul mentions, and using a phone or tablet as the monitor and control. Any new thoughts?

What is the best dog life jacket?

Very pleased with Ruffwear for our sheltie @ about 23 lbs and they come in a good range of sizes. Fortunately we’ve not had to dunk-test, but body support, apparent tolerance, and the lift handle are fine. US company but not sure about where manufacturing happens...

    Weems & Plath Clock question

I too had a dead W&P clock and ended taking the approach foggysail mentions. It may be impossible to find an exact replacement mechanism, but based on a few key measurements you can find something that will fit. I didn’t, however, come across any mechanisms with nautical bells.

    Interior teak hole repair

Thanks! As it happens I have a piece reclaimed from a reworked cabinet that’s just right for a cover patch - but greatly appreciated nonetheless.
