    Anyone recognize this unusual trawler?

This beautiful boat is currently in a Shelter Island San Diego Boat Yard. Very little online about the build other than its a 1988 built in Germany. You might assume they own stock in a marine varnish products company!

    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

It's possible they are trying to force folks over to Mobile Priority and keep them there once they have 'showed themselves' offshore. The current Mobile Priority plan makes sense for boats that are offshore a lot like fishing boats, charter boats, cruise ships, Two Boats, ocean Tugs, etc. In...

    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

No, sorry, we are on the Priority Mobile Plan. My understanding is that you need to opt-in to Priority before you leave your Mobile Regional area...but I could be wrong. My biggest complaint is using up the Priority Mobile data before I leave the dock, therefore having to buy more if I want...

    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

Had the same experience in Southern California on two trips to Catalina. It's a bummer that you have to burn through your Mobile Priority data first - as this often happens while we are at the dock during the month then we have to add data at $2 GB if we want offshore (more than 10 miles +/-)...

    N59CP and Coastal Cruisers

Here are the 'numbers' from our 2007 Nordlund 57 with twin CAT C9 575 hp engines, semi-displacement hull with ABT stabilizers, by Ed Monk, Jr and materials engineering by Tim Nolan, and fluid-dynamics by Ed Hagemann. Coastal Cruiser, but much lighter than the Nordhavn CP59. Our 1.0 nmpg speed is...

    Star link

The hardest part will likely be terminating the DirectTV account - they do not want to let you go : (

    Star link

We yanked out our DirectTV Dome and Dummy Dome, all hardware and said goodbye in May, 2024. Replaced with the High Performance model mounted on a Seaview mount painted to match our hull. Best move ever. Only downside is the power it needs, but we cut the breaker at night to save 1/3rd of the...

    Starlink Mount

We pulled our KVH TV5 domes off - no need with Starlink and mounted the High Performance antenna where the starboard dome had been. Despite some possible shadowing by the radar and antenna mast, the Starlink app shows less that 1% interference. We are extremely happy with the performance. Held...

    Vesper Cortex V1 VHF

Really good summary. Did they add loudspeaker and intercomm features yet? They were on the 'to release in the future' list last I looked. The Cortex unique features are really an interesting standout. The color screen with MFD like display is very cool. My preference would still be to have a...

    Vesper Cortex V1 VHF

Good friend has had many issues with his Cortex VHF radio. Transmit button has gone bad twice and replaced with rebuilt units. He has also suffered multiple dropped wireless connections (on a 50' sloop). I would never rely on a wireless connection for a critical safety component. Hand set does...

    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

We also just completed a Seaview Starlink mount using their new, low profile, wedge mount painted with Alex Seal to match our hull color. Starboard side - high performance antenna - almost disappears. Removed twin KVH TV5 domes (too small to fit either standard nor high performance antennas).

    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

Here is our Starlink installation on a Seaview anodized aluminum base painted to match the hull color. Hardly able to see it. We removed a KVH TV5 dome and twin dummy dome when Starlink was installed. Even though it was bought and paid for by previous owner, it was a bit hard to yank out a $18K...

    Seaward Water Heaters

Thanks. Torrid customers appear to be pretty happy. I guess I should feel lucky that we got 16 years out of our Seaward and that the leak was small and slow so we did not lose our entire fresh water supply on our last trip!

    Seaward Water Heaters

I found many sites still displaying Seaward water heaters, West Marine included, but none in stock. I did find one available but with a galvanized cover rather than stainless and I don't really want to risk rust ing. I called Whale in the UK and they said the only option is to order through a UK...

    Seaward Water Heaters

We have a 20 gallon Seaward water heater which is leaking. A bit of online research suggests this is common among aluminum tank design water heaters. Additionally, it appears Whale acquired Seaward and no longer has distributors in the US. Anyone else replace a Seaward and is happy with a new brand?

    50 versus 57

Nordhavn 50 versus 57 question James Knight, owner of Yacht Tech in Florida, has some good videos and commentary especially on the 57, which appears to be his favorite. Personally, I've always liked the 57.

    Hello

We are based in Southern California. We are thinking about a PNW trip, but the Covid-19 situation suggests it will probably not occur this year. We have Southern California friends shipping their boat from Florida to Roche Harbor this May. We'll now have a great a great excuse to spend a season...

    Grand Mariner needs Teak treatment

We have success using SEMCO on the teak decks. I've used natural and honey colors. In Southern California we treat twice a year. We use the 2 part cleaner and whitener first. Decks come out looking like new teak.

    Grand Mariner needs Teak treatment

We've tried many teak deck treatment but always come back to SEMCO, usually the Honey color version. It's easy to clean, beach if needed and apply, not sticky and looks good. Look seems to last longer than others. Used on 5 boats.

    Hello

We feel lucky to have found her and join the very unique Nordlund Boat Company family. We acquired her in December and after taking care of some survey items, we are in the midst of a refit with cosmetic, electronic and other upgrades for this summer. One Fish Two Fish was built in 2007, so at...

    Hello

Actually it's a pretty fuel efficient boat. It runs 9.7 knots at 2.2 NMPG, 13.6 knots at 0.92 NMPG and 19.8 knots at 0.7 NMPG. If you really slow down she runs 6.3 knots at 4 NMPG! Fast cruise (75% load) is 23.4 knots at 0.58 NMPG. Top end is 27.1 knots. With 810 gals of fuel she offers some...
