Reducing roll while anchored or moored.

re:flopper stoppers Love all the information in this thread about getting boats to not roll. It makes a huge difference in the quality of life while cruising. A couple years ago I decided to solve this problem and came up with these louvered style frames. They worked so well I built second set...

    Paravanes boom position?

We've used a pair of these flopper stoppers while at anchor and they work great. I won't spend a night on a boat without them. Recently we put them out while trolling and they worked great at slow speeds, 1-3 kts. They were placed 40% forward from the transom and the boat tracked straight and...

    Best stabilization

Paravanes work while moving but have a fairly small effect while at anchor. When we are on on the hook we move to passive roll stabablization, flopper stoppers. We've found that a louvered panel works the best here. I agree that when you find a good solution for stabilization under way or at...

    Dropping vs Lowering Anchor

On our little boat (22lb bruce, 40' 3/4 chain then rhode) we just chuck it out as fast as it will go but you want to be moving a little so it lays out in order on the bottom. Many times we are in tight anchorages where you need to set quickly and not drift into others.

Like he said, giving the anchor time to sink especially if you are in sand is the most important thing. After diving and watching ours in different conditions it only gets pulled in a little on the set but after 20 min with a little wave action it will be sunk up to the flute (Bruce). I've seen...

    For Sale: boat stabilizers

I've used these flopper stoppers for a year and they still work great with little wear. They work much better than the magma type especially as a pair, I have 2 panels. They are 20 x 40" and weigh 16 lbs. I can't even come close to explaining how many good nights sleep these things have given...

    california cruising

Hello everyone, I am running a 16' Radon in southern California. Love cruising all our local islands and spending nights on the hook. Hope to get a stepup boat eventually and love how the trawlers look.
