I was told yesterday that my Lehman will couple quite easily to velvet drive v-drive units that exist in one of my project possibilities. Anyone had good/bad experiences with Lehmans and v-drives? "sealife"...feel free to call 423-418-3483.

Story of my life...! Purchased a reman (BOMAC) Lehman 120 for my now unusable trawler. Had the Paragon rebuilt but would like to research other options for installing the engine and perhaps coupling to a heavy-duty stern drive or jet unit. Have access to a couple of 30'+ cruisers/houseboats...

I contemplated that idea after the sudden demise of my single Lehman that croaked...for use on our local lakes/rivers it makes sense...especially one on each corner of the transom, deep enough to not be affected by any fore-aft rocking. I was looking for twin 60-70 hp 25" shaft...

Follow-up for those that ever undertake engine removal themselves (as opposed to using professionals)...BE SURE to lift the engine completely off the motor mounts prior to the main lift up. My bolts were embedded in the stringers and prevented a gradual lift/shift/slide to allow the vertical...

Thanks for all the great ideas...! Since my flybridge deck needs re-doing anyhow, I cut a hole in the roof to accommodate the engine with transmission and have a boom truck coming next week. Still a big mystery to me how MT-style trawlers get engines replaced without such complicated methods...

No boatyard involved...just me and a boom-truck @ $175/hr.

Thanks for the many helpful suggestions! I just can't be the only MT-style owner that's ever had to pull out an engine. Guess that's why the smart money back then was on the reliability and longevity of the Ford Lehman...they NEVER wanted to have to pull that baby out!

Engine (less transmission) is to be rebuilt and re-installed. All marinized parts already removed. Just need suggestions for removal of 45"x 36"x 28" 1000lb block. Thanks!

For those of you without Marine Trader-type superstructures, the engine is approximately dead-center of the boat, several feet and 90 degrees from the nearest door out. Short of side window removal or a hole in the roof, anyone have direct experience removing the engine from this stye boat...
