    New Guy in Alaska

Welcome from Anchorage. Our boat is on the hard in Seward waiting for some engine work to get done over the winter. Splashing next spring.

Liveaboard Life in Alaska - views from the boat.

I might drive down on Thursday to do some work on mine. If I do, I'll stroll down there.

Liveaboard Life in Alaska - views from the boat.

I'll have to make sure I get down to the docks to meet you before you leave. My boat is still sitting up at Exit Marine on Alameda waiting for engine work from the guys at SHIP.

Help wiring AIS receiver into NMEA/Garmin chartplotter

Trying to wire my Standard Horizon AIS GX2100 radio into my new Garmin 942 XSplus chartplotter so the AIS will show on the Garmin. I'm having no luck figuring out which color wires go to/from the radio to the Garmin NMEA wire bundle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No Covid restrictions in Seward Alaska

There's a big surge of COVID in Seward going on right now. I'm waiting on a vendor to do some engine work and their entire shop is sick with it.

    Alaskan Earthquake

I was in Seward working on my boat that's on the hard. Could feel the quake, which lasted a really long time, though not violent. Evacuated around 10:30pm and drove up the highway out of town a couple of miles to higher ground. Finally got the all-clear around 12:30am. A very interesting...

Recommendations for marine electronics in the Seattle area

For you PNW boaters, who/where would you recommend in the Seattle/Port Orchard/Bremerton area to buy new electronics from? I'm probably going to replace all the systems on a boat we just bought in Port Orchard. Will most likely install myself, so price is a big consideration. Thanks.

    The Last Great Race

Fan favorite Aliy Zirkle crashed last night coming down into Rohn and had to be medevaced out as a precaution. She was flown to Providence Hospital in Anchorage. She's out of the hospital this morning...

    The Last Great Race

I covered the Iditarod for TV news back in the 80's and early 90's, so probably met your wife on the trail at some point.

Canada extends cruise ship ban until Feb 2022

I guess we're barging our boat to Alaska. Well, Canada made the decision easier today. We're going to barge our recently purchased boat from Seattle to Seward rather than doing the Inside Passage and across the Gulf of Alaska. Hate to give up that epic adventure, but feeling like this is the...

New boat owner, here to learn as much as I can.

It looks like around 260 miles from Yakutat to Cordova would be the longest run between fuel stops. Not gonna make that on 175 gallons.

Thanks. I've been following it closely.

New boat owner, here to learn as much as I can.

Not really a trawler, but we bought our first boat sight unseen over the winter in Port Orchard, WA. It's a 1991 10m Cooper Prowler Sundeck that we hope to bring to Alaska this spring via the Inside Passage and across the top of the Gulf of Alaska to her new homeport of Seward if Canada allows...

ASD 2021 Preparations for SE Alaska Cruiese

I"ll be watching this thread closely for tips. We bought a boat in Port Orchard over the winter and I'm flying down at the end of March to prep her for the trip up to Alaska, where she'll be homeported in Seward. Tentatively planning on beginning the trip at the end of April.

Interest in cruising the rest of Alaska?

I've gotten quotes to barge it to Seward or Whittier. Estimates weren't quite what I paid for the boat, but close ;)

Interest in cruising the rest of Alaska?

Agree. The weight up high would be far from ideal. I'm also looking at collapsible bladder tanks, but dang, they're expensive.

Interest in cruising the rest of Alaska?

I'll look for it next time I'm down there. I've been wondering if one of those pickup truck transfer tanks might work as well--if the structure on the back deck could handle the extra weight. I'd really like to put on another 150 gallons if feasible.

Interest in cruising the rest of Alaska?

We just bought a 32' Cruiser in Seattle that we'll be bringing up next spring to home port in Seward. Going to have to figure out how to get extra gas on-board to make the run from Yakutat to Cordova. I'm researching as much information as I possibly can over the winter.
