Boats like a DeFever 49 RPH?

I know this thread is a little old but I wanted to add a little info. We purchased a 2010 DeFever 50 CPMY about three years ago. Originally I wanted a 49 RPH because they are beautiful boats. Couldn't find one. We chose this 50 because it was the youngest DeFever we'd seen. This boat is a...

Defever 49 RPH or 50 in New England

We purchased a 2010 Defever 50 CPMY 2 years ago and love it. This model was an upgraded design of the DF 49 CPMY, also known as the 44 + 5. I believe they only made 12 starting around 2007. We have hull #4. The major differences are a wider beam, 16 vs 15, and a semi displacement hull. It is...

    Recommendation for Stabilizer Service

The stabilizers on my boat were installed when the boat was made in 2010. We love them! They make a big difference with rolling while underway- not at anchor. I would not have a boat without them.

    Recommendation for Stabilizer Service

I'm looking for a good place to have the seals on my Naiad 252 stabilizers replaced. We are in Maine now and will be heading back to North Carolina in a couple of weeks. I know there are several places on the Chesapeake that are listed as Naiad service centers. Just need a good recommendation...

    Major 'wake up' scare...

COVID was the event that convinced my wife and I to get the big boat now instead of waiting. We had a 34ft trawler that we planned on keeping for 5-7 years before retiring and getting a larger boat. We are both medical professionals so when COVID hit we decided to move up our plan. We retired...

Best place to store a second anchor

I was looking at rail hangers for my Fortress anchor and saw that they may not work if the anchor has Mud Palms. The palms are bent so that they will not slide into the hanger. I wonder if it will fit inverted? I also found this https://anchorstow.com/product/stow-custom/

JD coolant system service ballpark cost

We had the coolant systems on our twin JD 6068SFM50s and the Westerbeke generator inspected, cleaned, tested, and repaired/replaced 2 yrs ago when we bought our boat. It cost $11,000. The engines had about 2500hrs. One of the heat exchangers had a small hole which was repaired at radiator shop...

    Looking for a boat

If you are looking for boat on the East Coast I would recommend Capt. Bobby Gregory as a Buyer's Broker. He is with Intracoastal Yacht Sales in Charleston, SC. I used him as a seller's broker twice and a buyer's broker once. We found our boat on Yachtworld and he took it from there. The boat...

    Engine Compartment Lighting

My boat has vapor proof industrial type light fixtures with fluorescent bulbs. One bulb went out and I tried to replace it with a standard 18in bulb. It wouldn't fit. I did some investigation and found that the correct bulb for these fixtures cost $50! That fixture was replaced with an LED...

    PURE insurance?

I chose PURE for my home in 2009 because they were one of very few companies offering coverage for a high value home in a hurricane prone area. A couple of years ago they raised my rates due to a report from Lexus Nexus that said I had some unpaid mortgages ( which was incorrect). Tried to fight...

    Troubleshooting Sealand S Vacuum Generator

Same situation happened to me. The pump would run every half hour or so. I replaced the duckbill valves, and the o-ring seal for the bowl and the leak got worse. I called tech support and they advised using a vacuum gauge and start at the pump and work my way to the head. In the year and a half...

What did you fix on your boat today?

I recently posted about that same issue. I removed the Vacuflush and installed a Marine elegance and after a few days noticed the bath mat was was wet and yellow. After some boat yoga to find the problem, it turned out to be the rubber exhaust tubing which had a pin hole under the hose clamp...

    Anti Freeze keeps getting low

Recently had the same issue on one of my John Deere 6068s. When I bought the boat I noticed a small amount of coolant pooling near the front of the heat exchanger where the coolant inlet and exhaust are located. I replaced the exhaust manifold gasket and thats when I had to start adding coolant...

    Survey report

I would also get an electrical survey from a certified Marine Electrician. In addition to identifying problems, they can help you understand the boat's electrical systems.

    Emergency Temporary Fix Kit

Being the Boy Scout that I am, when I saw this case I thought "How cool- gotta have one". Then I realized I already had most of that stuff on the boat... somewhere. In an emergency I don't want to be thrashing through my tools looking for something so I decided to duplicate what I might need and...

What does S/D at 8kts look like?

This is our 2010 DeFever 50 CPMY doing about 8knts. (sorry you cant see wake) This boat was a redesign of the 49 CPMY with a semi displacement hull and and extra foot of beam (16). It is powered with twin John Deere 300hp engines. 8-9 knts seems to be the sweet spot burning about 7-8 gph. This...

    The story of Joshua Slocum

I sailed with Tristan on Outward Leg from Newport, RI to the Azores in 1984. Your description is fairly accurate but he did do some incredible voyages before losing his leg. Having to depend on crew because of that frustrated him immensely. He was a legend in his own mind (may he rest in peace)...

    Modified Cutwater question

I had a C-28 with the Volvo diesel. No issues with the performance of the engine but it was a B#$%* to work on due to the tight space. I can only imagine how tight the space around the engine is on that C24. The outboard would be much easier to access. I would be concerned with the performance...
