    Incident at fuel dock

So for those of us also in the Pacific North West would you mind identifying the fuel dock? Want to watch that one if I ever use it. Marty.......................

    Stove/Range Ventilation Hood Question

Well, I guess I can throw my 2 cents in here. I went through this when we converted out electric stove to a propane stove. We have lived aboard for the past 10 years and have used the range hood pretty much every day of that time. There was no provision for a range hood on our boat when we...

Removing a Halon FE for Inspection

Yep, and nasty stuff it is too. Tom, I think you already have your answer but it is simple to do: 1. Unplug the switch connector (that is a signal wire to your shutdown controller). 2. Carefully disengage the remote actuator cable. 3. Loosen the mounting mechanism. 4. Remove the bottle and...

    Transmission Temperature Gauge

I think that is your Neutral Safety Switch. Check out the Manual section of this forum. There is the Borg-Warner Velvet Drive installation manual there. I did not see the service manual so I just uploaded it. I presume it will show up once approved. Marty.......................

    Transmission Temperature Gauge

Auto transmission temperature gauges are probably closer to the mark. There temperature senders, like this one from Summit Racing, for VDO gauges and others for different brand gauges. The trick is to find one that will fit the threaded fitting on the transmission and is the right length. I have...

    ASD 2019 Alaska Cruise

Darn Tom, missed you by a week. We just got back from the Brougton's on Sunday. If you can add a day or two on your return you should come on over to Poulsbo for a couple of days when you leave Seattle. Nice anchorage if you don't want to tie up at the port. Nice little Norwegian town. Be happy...

    And we're off to Seattle...

Yes, but not that shiny new model. My bride used to get so sea sick that I thought I was getting out of boating. Bought one of the older round relief bands and when she puts it on her symptoms stop instantly. We stayed in boating and have even been living aboard/cruising full time for the past 8...

    Wanted: Raymarine C-80 monitor

Contact Steve at Marine Electronics Repair. He was able to fix both issues that came up with my Raymarine C120 equipment. Very competent and reasonable. Marty.........................

    Engine installation

Just a thought, can you rig a cantilevered beam across those piles on the other side of the dock to sling the engine across to your boat? As to getting it in, a friend had to go through his windshield when he needed to get a large object (a washer in his case) inside the boat. Have you...

    Glendinning Synchronizer users

According to my manual you are supposed to advance both throttles just past idle (for me that is about 900-1000 RPM), engage synchronizer and then advance the slave all the way to the stop. I was not originally doing that, I engaged at idle, and I had an issue. Initially it worked as expected...

    Spitfire

Lucas did not invent darkness but he DID perfect it.:D I like the spitfire but would love to have a TR6. I remember in the early 70's an add that had a spitfire (car) parked next to a real spitfire (fighter), awesome. Marty...........................

    Batteries box

I need to check battery water in the next few days, will get some photos then. As to what I used for the seal, I don' remember exactly, it was 8 years ago after all:blush:. I seem to recall is was some foam-type auto gasket material that is supposed to be impervious to oil and acid. I do...

    Batteries box

I did exactly that for my 6 GC2 batteries eight years ago. The box is 3/4" plywood with fiberglass inside and out and then painted with an epoxy paint for looks. The bottom is about 1" larger then the footprint of the box to provide a flange to screw the box down to the stringers in the engine...

    For Folks In The PNW

My experience is similar to others when crossing in to Canada. When asked how much booze we have on board I ask them if they want all of it or just the unopend ones and mention that it is ship's stores (I have a detailed list with me). So far they have always moved on to the next item. Be nice...

    Liveaboard Poll

We moved aboard in May of 2011 and have never looked back. We live in the Pacific North West and do not "cruise" as some on the east coast do (I envy that somewhat). We generally stay put through the winter with occasional weekend or week-long cruises. During the summer months we tend to get out...

    ASD Spring Upgrades

Mark that drawer so you won't be tempted to store anything metallic in it. Friend of ours hung a left one day cuz their new BBG toolset slid near their compass on a roll one day. Surprised the heck outta them at the time.:D Marty......................
