    Inflatable RIB Cover Supports

I have found that installing a couple of grommets where the poles hit the canvas work well. The ends of the poles poke through just enough to keep them from moving around. Keep the ends only 1/2" thru to keep the wildlife from sitting on them!!

    Waste tank monitoring

Stick to what you have. Here's my recipe. 1. Pull the tank sensor probe fitting out. 2. Scrape and loosen the crud at bottom of the tank as best you can, two paint stir sticks work great taped together. 3. Pump out the tank. 4. The sensors, that slide on the tubes, can come off by taking off...

    GFCI Question

The green wire is for ground, but I don't understand the question. Please elaborate.

    Gb 46 eu

I have had the opportunity to see both the 46EU and 52EU. I agree with the previous posts on layout etc but I think what stands out the most on these boats is the workmanship on the brightwork! The second staterooms are small, but comfy. I use the second stateroom on our GB42EU as a reading room...

WTB: Grand Banks Europa 54 or 47 or similar

I can make 22 knots in my 42 Europa. I looked at the 52 Europa, "Sleeko" in Greenport NY that did 15 with Cat3126B motors.

    Prep. teak deck for sanding

I had the same problem, caulking raised up all over the boat. This is caused by aggressive brush action with the grain. My boat yard used a tool like Alguires is showing us but it had a radiused blade. Worked great and didn't gouge the teak. Decks were then sanded.

    Perplexed by DC thruster issue

It sounds like you just have a ground issue. If you connect the jumper to the main DC ground and the thruster runs, this will prove it out. Most DC power problems stem from bad batteries, battery cable and connection issues, or both. Rich

Rocna Vulcan anchor size for Grand Banks 42?

FBoykin, Ive got a GB42EU displacement 39000lbs. Ive had a 60# CQR on it with 200" of 3/8" chain and have had no problems at all. I do a really good set, backing down on it well. Its been dropped on several different kinds of bottoms. A good thing is how easily it pulls up. Rich

    Alternator problem or normal?

To KnotYet, Thanks. That's all been done twice. The kicker is why is it on both alternators? Rich

    Alternator problem or normal?

To Bmarler, The voltage begins to drop as soon as the rpm's are increased. To koliver, I agree. But, I've never heard of any boat with two types of regulation. But, I'd like to hear more from possibly other GB owners. Thanks to you both! Rich

    SidePower Joystick Control Issue

You could try switching the joysticks and see if the problem tracks to the other station. That would indicate if its bad.

    Alternator problem or normal?

Hi, I have a 2005 Grand Banks Europa trawler with Cat 3126B 450HP diesels. On startup, both alternator outputs are at 14.0 volts. After departing the marina and raising the rpms to 2400, the voltages decrease to 13.3 with rpm. Returning to the marina, the rpms are brought to 650 for docking. The...

    windlass slipping lost anchor

During routine annual maintenance check the clutch for corrosion following manufacturers instructions. In shallow water such as at your home port, drop the anchor slightly and tie off the chain to take the tension off the Gypsy. Disassemble the clutch and inspect.

    windlass slipping lost anchor

When you’re in there next time, check the clutch for dirt and/or corrosion. The clutch surfaces must be clean for it to work right. This exact thing happened to me three weeks ago except that we were in 8 feet of water. I ended up getting it with my fishing rod rigged up with treble hooks...

Battery chargers won't work on genset, work fine on SP

Gen set volts The Onan Generator needs to put out its nameplate voltage. This should be 120vac. Try adjusting it up to 120 exactly (within .1volt. ) The procedure is in the owners manual. ?

Kohler 6 EOD starts than shuts down.

I had the same issue on my Onan QD Jenny. It turned out to be a low AC output running 6% low. Check for good water flow and proper oil level. Might be just a coincidence it happened right after a repair. Keep an open mind!

    Wire THNN or XHHW?

Good choice! The THHN wire is not to be used in marine environments. At the least, it has a higher resistivity than what you're using and would result in a high voltage drop thus poor windlass performance.

Charging on the hard with 110v

Charging in Spring Check that all battery connections are clean and tight. Test each battery using a load tester and insure battery meets specs for load and voltage. Then run charge system per normal procedure. I had the exact same boat that used a Xantrex charger with a remote status panel...

    Onan MDKAV Starting problems

Onan MDKAV voltage adjustment Finally got on the boat last weekend and saw immediately the generator tripping out on startup and throwing an over voltage code. This was being caused by a large overshoot due to the regulator card with slow response. After finally getting it to start by...

    Alternator does not charge

I agree with #10 about the water level rising and causing corrosion. Many boats have an engine ground quite low on the block. A bad enough ground and the alternator might have voltage to itself but no current to the battery. The battery shares the ground with the engine(s). #17 writes a good...

    Sizing a circuit

Isolation techniques The isolation of grounds and neutrals is accomplished by inserting an insulator under the neutral bus bar to prevent it from being in common with the ground busbar and sub panel itself. The panel might include this component. Usually all you have to do is remove the neutral...

    Sizing a circuit

Sub Panel wiring I agree with the sub panel approach. However grounds and neutrals from the two circuits must be isolated from each other in the new sub panel and all the way back to the main panel. This avoids Ground loops, Ground faults, and other undesirable features.

    David crane

Cranes Its best to get in touch with the crane manufacturer to determine specs of any kind. FWIW, a properly sized crane for that boat would be at least 800 lbs but more likely 1000lbs or more. Delta4242 GB42EU

30 amp Shore Power Cord Short?

Sounds like when you coiled up the cord, it shorted internally. If you disconnect the cord at both ends and ohm into it between any two pins, you might pick up a short on the meter when you move the cord around. Concentrate on the last 3 feet of the ends at first, then work your way...
