    Boatless in Perth!!

Well, Arcturus is sold after 13 years of custodianship and the new owner took over last Friday /Saturday so walked away Saturday around lunchtime after completing a handover. Not really sad as we had decided it was time and the new owners were very happy with their purchase so she will...

    Original boat name

Our boat name is Arcturus- A red star seen in the Northern Hemisphere in the constellation Bootes- and our boat model is a Polaris 35 here in Australia. We liked it but we do have it spelt phonetically next to our VHF for logging on to Sea Rescue as they inevitably ask for it:)

    Greetings from Western Australia

Our boat is in Sydney but we live in Perth. We split our time, three months on the boat and three months in Perth. We were on the boat for 6 months this last time as we were stuck in Sydney by the hard borders closing until there was a window for a G2G pass for us to be back by the 28th June...

    Greetings from Western Australia

Looks like a very powerful and seaworthy hull. Perhaps its time the WA contingent get to together in our own "bubble"":):) for a drink. John

    I'm back on land!

We have a PT 35 aft deck or a Polaris35 here in Australia. At the moment we are living aboard as the borders are closed between NSW and WA where we live when not on the boat. At the moment we are looking at being on board over the winter and this morning as I write this it is 10c so well rugged...

    Surveyors

I used Holmes to do the survey on my boat and they were very comprehensive in their assessment of mine and certainly satisfied my insurer for a policy. While that was 12 years ago, when I had reason to make contact with them again they still had the details of the survey they did for me. So a...

    Thanks NZ & Canada Fireies

On another note. A request was put out to boat owners to offer their boats for a day on the water in Sydney or the Pittwater, for firies and their families in March and so far over 300 boats have been offered. We are registered and waiting to hear if we have been allocated a family. Looking...

    Humminbird HDR 650

Hi all. Has anybody used one of these as a depth sounder on a larger boat perhaps as a backup for a primary sounder? If so how did you fit the transducer in the in-hull mode? TIA John

I have a Striker 60lb thrust on my 10ft ally dinghy. It pushes me along at 3kn which is great to get me to shore or puttering around.I have just upgraded my main solar to 2x 325w from 3x130w and so have mounted one of the 130s to a storage box I have on the aft deck and run a wire to the dinghy...

    The “Full-Service” approach.

And thirsty Menzies. Amazing how much a slab of beer can achieve. Once got an old generator and 2 old 220 ah batteries out of the boat for one. Lifting those batteries from down in the bottom of the hull onto the saloon floor and onto the pontoon made my back spasm just thinking about it:):)

    The “Full-Service” approach.

Menzies, too true:)just living a day at a time though which is what we enjoy Oh and not having to get outboard of those big 33yr old Perkins to change filters etc.:):)

    The “Full-Service” approach.

Growing up in quite a poor family but with dad always having a boat DIY was the only option for us as a family. So I have always done what ever I needed to do on my own boats except bottom jobs and anything mechanical!! Those are not for me and are a part of the cost to own a boat. This year-my...

    Opinions please...used anchor chain

I have just replaced my 10mm L grade short link chain-55mtr. The chain was made in China but in an Australian supervised factory. Chain is tested and is smooth galvanized with no clumps of gal on links. Very happy with it. John. Arcturus

I have just installed the app on my Polarus 35 and have no problems with the bluetooth on my flybridge which is about 4 meters away from the controller in the engine room near the batteries. I love it. John

I have just replaced my 35mtrs of 10mm chain with new and I found I had 2x1gal buckets of rust flakes and other detrious to clean out before fitting the 55mtrs back in. Sydney Harbour - why didn't I cruise it ?

When watching the fireworks we park off Taronga Zoo arriving around 9am in 13 metres of water, put out plenty of scope, then sit down and watch the fun for the rest of the day as others arrive. We generally put fenders either side of the boat as you never know when somebody will drag. The...

    Sydney Harbour - why didn't I cruise it ?

As one who is still moored in Middle Harbour and hasn't escaped to the Hawkesbury permanently but do go to visit, I am still able to find places like Sugarloaf, Roseville river and Bantry Bay to escape to or even up the Harbour and under Anzac Bridge into Blackwattle Bay to visit the fish...

For those on the Hawkesbury - where are you cruising?

Hi Brett. We are not tied to a time frame as I am refurbishing the shower and head in the aft cabin at the moment and there is still a bit of work to do on that. At the moment we are at anchor in Blackwattle Bay near the Fish Markets and will be going to the Wooden Boat Festival over the next...

For those on the Hawkesbury - where are you cruising?

Hi Brett. We are currently on our boat on our mooring in Middle Harbour. Both Bantry and Sugarloaf have good moorings surrounded by national park. Depending on wind direction both offer shelter. If you are trailering your boat down there is a ramp on the Roseville river or at Tunks Park in...

    Aussie brainpickers

    What about wind generators?

Hi Lou. I have 400w of solar on the bimini of Arcturus with an MPPT controller, and I added a 400w "Ideal" wind generator sold by a local marine retailer. I now have enough power to run our boat on the hook and in fact have removed the genset once it broke down and find for the style of boating...
