Well, I see not much empathy here. I guess this was the wrong place, and the wrong place for me. I’ll be deleting myself from this forum.

Obviously I disagree with mystery, a USCG seaman’s pay with a spouse and two children is below the FPL. Some families have a hard time making ends meet on a regular day WITH a paycheck. I also have my own charities, but I think I’ll find one today to help them out. I just thought this would be a...

Is anyone interested in starting a fund drive for our Coast Guard Friends that donnie decided not o pay? They are always there when we need help. Maybe an ongoing group that could use our support to help CG families in need?

    Worse Filters Ever!!

I just saw it too, I’ve always used Wix when available. I’ll now consider NAPA, probably easier to get.

    Engine installation

Best tool for engine removal, saws all. It’s fiberglass, mate. When building our 34’ sport fish boats, no large engine hatch. For major engine problems or removal, just saw a large enough hole in the deck, and the roof if need be. Found it much easier to repair the hole than all the bs of trying...

Which Diesel Is Easier To Maintain?

Just sayin... guess I’m getting old, back in the day, ha, it was true. Except the falls.

Which Diesel Is Easier To Maintain?

Your half way up the Congo River, you pull in to a little village, the local mechanic has a 6-71 gasket set hanging on the wall......

The art of the sailor explained

Same here, but going for my first next week, age 70. What the hell, I’ll be dead before it fades.

    Perkins TV8.540 M vs CAT 3208 TA

Never had any luck with 3208’s in my truck fleet or boats. High rate of crankshaft failure and head gaskets. Non turbos were better, the bigger you go, the faster you blow.

    2 filters in series

Haven’t we all. Simple and well labeled. As a pilot how many have feathered the wrong engine at the most inopportune time. The silence is incredible.

    Aeroquip fuel hose replacement

I always use Aeroquip. One thing, if you use reusable fittings, you MUST use Aeroquip assembly lube, if you don’t you will NEVER get it together.

    2 filters in series

First, when the captain is incapacitated, the least knowledgeable person on the boat needs to be able to figure it out in the worst weather. There are plenty of examples that have been previously posted that are very straight forward and labeled. Keep it as simple as possible.

As a former boat builder, that cluster F would never happen on one of my boats.

Fiberglass work the horror and wonder

You haven’t lived till you use a chopper gun.

Hydraulic steering, what hose to use?

Whe I was building boats where failure was not an option, it was Aeroquip hose and fittings.

Do you have a garbage disposal on your boat?

Apparently with our current government, you can throw anything, anywhere, anytime.

    Southwest Florida Hurricane Plan

After living on the Caloosahtchee for 25 years, my advice is past the lock, Owl Creek, or heavily tied in the middle of a canal up river. The problem with the river is that the water backs up against the lock and has no where to go but up and over the banks. I’ve seen the river where except for...

Huh, a lot of aviators, slightly surprising. I left out other branches because I was curious about my branch, but all are welcome to comment. I’ve been on or near the water my entire life. My dad worked on the St Lawrence Seaway when I was little, teenage years within spitting distance of the...
