    Show us your stern

I had a similar symmetrical prop but a bit smaller. It was old (perhaps even the first prop on the boat 1962) and had seen both rocks and better days. So I ordered a new one from a local prop workshop that makes really efficient ones. Problem was that the new one was "too efficient", so the...

    Show us your stern

I'm actually not entirely sure at this point. It was 15x15 but went through some adjustment prior to launching this spring, so perhaps somewhere around 15x14 or the other way around. Adjustment was done after the photo was taken and I didn't visit the boatyard again until it was launched and I...

    Show us your stern

Well, after some hull work during the winter I think its fair to revive the thread with this footage. Not really proper stern images, but anyway.

    Weird weather?

Sorry, but I didn't really get it! Is it just a random rant or is there actually an attempt to refer to some science? The "religious phenomena" sentence makes me believe it's the first option, but I can't really be sure. And there's not really any scientific relevance in the sun reference...

    Weird weather?

Well. First of all planetary climate is basically not really a chaotic system. It's a matter of solar radiation combined with the atmospheric composition. The mechanisms are actually well understood and therefore also predictable. There are indeed uncertainties regarding the exact climatic...

    Weird weather?

Well, if that was reported, it surely wasn't reported by science. If it was, than you'd need to dig up the peer reviewed articles that claim there was a mini ice age back then. However there might very well have been a number of cold winters in a specific region. It will still be cold winters...

    Weird weather?

History also shows that science is very often right And you can't claim that science actually once said that earth is the center of the solar system since such belief wasn't based on scientific observations nor conclusions. The idea that disease was caused by bad air was also just a...

    Weird weather?

Science is certainly not about a particular view, other than the view that the latest proven scientific results (peer reviewed) are the best possible descriptions of how the world works. The scientific method is all about reviewing existing observations and adding new studies that brings more...

Canoe (or double end) boats efficient?

Truly sorry in advance... but I couln't help it... ;) Sketching on improvements of the stern.

Canoe (or double end) boats efficient?

Perhaps there is too much focus on the stern alone here? The functionality of the stern is still affected by the rest of the submerged part of the hull. Both in terms of drag and how it behaves in following waves. Then there is a question of how deep the transom goes. Is it completely above the...

Canoe (or double end) boats efficient?

Yes, a planing hull can be as fuel efficient as a double ended boat (canoe stern) within the efficient speed range of the latter. The Loxo 32 is a good example of that. It doesn't drag much water in its wake and the turbulence is minimized. In other words it's a construction that works very well...

Canoe (or double end) boats efficient?

Here's the Loxo 32 by the french sailboat manufacturer Pogo Structures. It's an atempt to make a seaworthy light and extremely fuel efficient motor boat. There are three engine alternatives and even one electrical version. It's quite equal to my boat in terms of dimensions - but a bit more beam...

Canoe (or double end) boats efficient?

I wrote a long reply to this. But it somehow got lost when it was submitted due to som log in thing. In short... For some reason it seems like the owners of canoe sterned boats would need to defend the ownership of such boats. I'm not going to do that. But I can say as much that if I for some...

Canoe (or double end) boats efficient?

1903 if I remember correctly? That surely turns my 1962 construction into a true modernity. I think your trawler has entered my "boats I'd very much like to own list". It looks gorgeous.

Canoe (or double end) boats efficient?

Well, I'm a total nerd in terms of efficiency at cruise speed. There are several small adjustments I'd like to do on the submerged parts of the hull - especially around the prop and the rudder. It's not about speed - it's about gliding as effortless as possible through water.

Canoe (or double end) boats efficient?

Such a fixed trim tab is certainly not about buoyancy. If buoyancy was the problem the solution would naturally be a completely different one. But I do understand the misconception due to having mentioned that bigger engines led to the use of these trim tabs. However in these boats the engines...

Canoe (or double end) boats efficient?

Its quite common around here on this type of hull. At least it became common when the old traditional double ended fishing boats got new and stronger engines. It prevents the stern to dig down when hull speed is about to be exceeded. In some constructions it can probably add a tiny tad of speed...

Canoe (or double end) boats efficient?

This double ended thing came out of the water a few days ago and is now going to receive a long awaited restauration of the hull.

    Interesting boats

I'm the kind of person who's disturbingly fond this kind of ship[ish] cruiser. https://www.atlanticyachtandship.ru/en/catalog/boat/u_s_navy/45/mare/1974/253570/

    Interesting boats

I kind of like some parts of the hull shape and those IPS pods are most certainly OK by me. However the boat is much too fast and way too fuel thirsty for my liking. Neither am I really fond of all the design features. I did see it live from a distance when they did some test drives in the region.

    Interesting boats

No it (motoryachts) is not their trademark exactly - or far from. But they have had their hands on a few through the years. Yes the beanie is important when exploring the archipelago.
