    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

I used this unit: Starlink Gen 3 12V Conversion — TRIO Flatmount Starlink Mounts There may be better ones but it works.

    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

Tom, your input was very helpful. Here’s my final installation. I got lucky and didn’t need to drill any new holes in the boat to run the cables. I was also able to run the router and antenna directly off my house bank using a 12V-56V converter.

Which Starlink kit for the boat

Thanks for getting back to me. That clamp-on antenna looks like a very well made one - what was the source/manufacturer?

Which Starlink kit for the boat

Can you give me the details on the source for the VHF antenna mount with rail mount and the coupling that screws into it on one end and attaches to the short Starlink mounting pole? Thanks!

    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

Can you tell me the details of what the other components of your mount are. I just got a Gen 3 Starlink and am trying to figure out how to mount it to the railing on the flybridge of my GB 42. Your hardware looks like it would work well in my application.

    Starlink on GB 42 Classic

Those of you who have installed a Starlink on your GB 42 Classic, I'm curious how you have routed the Starlink cable from the array to the interior of the boat.

    Caterpillar 3116 Replacement on a 42

Patrick, did you replace with another 3116? If so, how were you able to source it? Curious as I have a 1994 GB 42 with 3116 engines too. Hope I don’t have to replace them (they have 3200 hours) but if I do, glad to see it’s possible — your pics could prove invaluable.

    Install Vitrifrigo 180A Refrigerator/Freezer

Pat, The height of the top of the fiddle on the our counter is 39 inches. The fiddle extends about 3/4 inch above the actual countertop. The top of the fridge surround as installed is 35 3/8 inches from the cabin sole. Sorry, I don't have the measurement of the cabinet depth.

    Install Vitrifrigo 180A Refrigerator/Freezer

Pat T, We have a GB 42 Classic with the same galley arrangement as you. This spring, we had a Vitrifrigo 180 installed and love it. It was a tight fit and did require a little interior cabinet trimming but it did go in with a flush front fit. Probably doesn't meet manufacturer specs for...

We haven’t had too many reports on the fishing but it does not seem too active yet.

    Passage through Canadian rapids

Just wanted to report that, thanks to the your advice and encouragement, and careful preparation, we had a very easy transit of the the rapids. We got to Hole in the Wall nearly an hour before high water slack and had little to deal with. We were then able to make it to Yaculta Rapids and...

    Passage through Canadian rapids

Yes, I've been studying the Waggoneer discussion of negotiating the rapids too. Have been through Dodd a few times and will be going through on this trip as well. Also, several trips through Deception Pass. I know timing is everything - the difference between "no big deal" and "OH SH*T!!"

    Passage through Canadian rapids

I'm looking for local knowledge and/or past experience. I'm planning a cruise this August that will include visiting the Octopus Islands. I also want to visit the Dent Island area. My question is whether, using an 8-9 knot trawler, it would be feasible to negotiate both Hole in the Wall and...

    Nanaimo to Campbell River

Oh yeah - several years ago, a friend headed out from Nanaimo without checking and got a swift and unpleasant visit from the Navy. Not something I want to risk.

What provisions are OK to bring from US into Canada

Thanks Slowgoesit - helpful info. Glad you mentioned Nexus. From reviewing the Canadian websites, it looks like Canada will allow Nexus for entry this year and we are planning to go that way. That's going to be my next post, "Has anyone used Nexus to enter Canada by boat this summer?"

What provisions are OK to bring from US into Canada

I'm heading to Canada from the US, entering the Gulf Islands from the State of Washington.
