    Identify my windlass

I have a 1987 marine trader. The windless seems to be original. There are no identifying numbers or letters on the housing. I have seen the same housing on other MT’s but never able to get a brand or name. It’s going into our 4th year of ownership and I would like to service it before It needs...

    Repack rudder shaft seal.

Just had my trawler hauled out and repacked. Looks great. But while I was inquiring about costs and procedures, which were many, two shops suggested that approach. Saying it’s just above the water line. Scary for sure. But I chose to take her out and leta pro do it. One shop suggested to...

    Marine Trader Aft water tank

I’m finding things out as I travel my first NJ TO FLA trip. My 36 sundeck has two 100 gallon tanks. One bow n one under bed. Preowner dedicated the whole tank for the master toilet! One hundred gallons to flush away. Anyways, I’ve filled the aft tank only to find out that my starboard exhaust...

Easting I noticed my wife keenly listening to the new chats about navigating. She’s already read this months BoatUS Magazine. In it there’s a question on the cover”what do women really want?” Lol. It’s about the helm. Haha. I think she’s gonna go for it. Or, maybe you just have to read the...

I’m really surprised how many boaters have as much confidence in the Navionics program on the iPad. I’ve spoken to lots of boaters in my marina about this set up and they have no interest. I’m glad to be a member of the Forum.

Are you an all Weather Trawler?

This is our first “big” trip. But in New Jersey now it’s chilly getting cold and the weather in Florida is gonna feel warmer. Lol. Casting off Monday. We been planning this for almost three years. So, I guess we don’t mind the weather. Lol

I agree with the effects boating has on equipment. I always keep my portable electronics in its travel case. I think any kind of permanent install is subjecting iPads to the elements for sure. I never leave it laying “out” or exposed to outdoor weather. Spending an extra dollar on a carrying...

Ben. You won’t get let down. Navionics’s has a simple $14.99 download. It’s easy to use and one that I started with. The next year I upgraded to around $50.00 a year. And it nice to be able to plan a nice trip from home.

I purchased my first boat in Clearwater fl. I live in New Jersey. I hired a captain to help me bring her up. I learned a whole lot from him. But the best things I learned is the confidence I got when learning how to navigate with his iPad and the Navionics program. I got multiple Garmin’s up and...
