    Boarded by NOAA

Sure, do away with the permits. Then, in ten years, we won't have to worry about Pacific Halibut at all anymore. Just like Cod on the East Coast, almost non-existent.

    Adding a coolant recovery tank/bottle

Coolant recovery Scroll back up to Vashon Trawler's picture of a cap. This particular cap is a coolant recovery cap. The gasket at the bottom is the one that prevents vented fluid from leaking out everywhere, Th black gasket next up is the one overcome by the rated pressure. The big spring is...

    Stern tube tarnish?

re: verdigris If you read the article, it actually states: These properties are all in comparison with verdigris, which is normally a duller shade, uniform across the whole of the affected object, and cannot be scratched off with wood or fingernails. Unlike bronze disease, verdigris...

    Removing transmission

re: Paragon They are the six inner bolts as shown in your picture. I'll try to post the manual again. sorry, the file size is too large to upload. Dave p.s. Send me a pm and I'll send you the file if you're interested.

    Removing transmission

re: opening her up The front cover plate is the pump for the transmission. It is and Automatic. The rotational position of the pump determines the direction of rotation. You MUST match mark the cover before you take out those six bolts. If you take off the cover, you should throw a kit in it...

Corrosion pundits - what about flushing with fresh water?

Zinc anodes in fresh water You may be right about Zinc not having the voltage potential to carry current in fresh water. This may be true when fresh water is defined as distilled water. The fresh water WE boat in has plenty of contaminants to carry a current. The evidence is the fact that I...

    Removing transmission

I've had mine out twice and apart once. The rear section is the reduction gear and shares oil with the tranny If you separate it, you'll have a mess. If you remove the top cover, all you really see is the reverse piston and the single reversing band. If I recall correctly, there is a small...

    What hp??

Gasoline engines are set to between 4 and 10 degrees before TDC to allow for flame to propagate and pressure to build. Sparks timing is variable and advances as RPM increases. My Lehman injection is timed for 20 degrees before TDC.

    What hp??

True, you can't separate torque from horsepower, but the formula above does not mention what torque actually is. Torque = force x lever arm length. The reason diesels make such high torque is that they are long stroke, high compression engines. The long stroke gives a long lever arm on the crank...

    What happen with my tachometer!!!

You are absolutely right! The single-wire Delco is called a "self-exciting" alternator. No need for an energized field. These require the the field to have some residual magnetism. As they spin, the residual magnetism starts the charge and as the charge increases, it fully "excites" the field...

Bolts that hold the plate behind the prop?

To properly finish my post: I neglected to mention that whatever you do, the prop should be reconditioned, the shaft checked to see if it is bent, and the engine realigned when it is finished. Otherwise, it's gonna vibrate like a sonofagun.

    What happen with my tachometer!!!

If you purchased a Delco 10 SI alternator, the 2 small terminals should be marked "F" and "R". This stands for "Field" and "Relay". The Field terminal is how you turn the alternator on and off. Usually this is accomplished on a diesel with an oil pressure switch on the engine. When the engine...

Bolts that hold the plate behind the prop?

My 1977 MT 34 has hanger bolts into the end of the keel. They are like wood screws on one end and half-inch machine screws on the other. They are solid bronze and available from Jamestown Distributors. If you have stripped out the threads in the keel, you should fill with epoxy before threading...
