    53 DeFever POC build questions

The 53 Defever was built by the POCTA yard based on my boat the 49 RPH but extended to 53 and a full 16' beam. I would think its cored above water line but not below. I know on my Defever from all the plugs that came from various parts of the boat during drilling for through hull etc that it...

    stabilizer

In taLking with the stabilizer companies at the recent Miami boat show with a friend who is stabilizing his Hatteras, all of the comments from the reps no matter the manufacturer stated you cannot stabilize over the whole power range when you have a boat that will go from 0 to 20 knots. You...

    stabilizer

Planing boats don't benefit from stabilizers when on plane. Last year with 7000 miles under the keel our stabilizers were awesome and I wouldn't buy another trawler without them. We use ours on the ICW when being passed by a sport fisher just as much as being hit by a beam sea in the ocean

    stabilizer

On the east coast less than 3k but there is more than just the seals replaced as in other posts I have said called Craig or Tammy in Ft Lauderdale from Stabilized Marine they are experts in Naiads. Remember not every shop can do you justice with your service for example your stabilizer shafts...

FL to Bahamas to T&C to USVI: Stabilizers?

Stabilizers rock not just on the outside bit other areas as well. I have used them on the ICW when a large sport fisher is bearing down or on the MS River with tugs and tows. Our Naiads are great I know they are not cheap but are a good investment in your comfort.

    49 Pilot house Beam measurement

15'2 is pretty slim, I was in a 15'6" slip not long ago and it was a real pia. Now in a 16'8" and it allows a lot more room especially arriving and leaving in tricky weather and with fixed docks we arnt bouncing off each side.

    Who is going!

This will be a good Rendezvous with not many slips or tickets left for attendees . If you plan on attending but have not yet secured your tickets you better get on it, especially with cancellation available up to two days prior to the event there is no excuse. Hotels are also filling up this...

    Painting engine room

I just finished painting our engine room a mix of spray , brush and roller. The long part was all the taping and covering but it looks good now. at least we can stand up in ours and get around all the corners etc. After a year of moving everyday engine rooms tend to get a little dirty so now...

    Deep draft boat?

I would love 3'10 draft instead of our current 5'7" draft. I have travelled all of the keys on a previous boat with a similar draft as yours and nada problemo. To quote a down under saying " sheal be right mate" Gerald

Boater shares first-hand experience of Avalon storm

Very well written article that was captivating from the beginning to the end. We have been in a mooring field in the Virgin Islands when bad weather came through tossing sailboats around and flipping tenders. We bounced off another boat that night but none of it compares at all to what these...

    Pickwick State Park Marine

We spent the summer of 13 at Aqua Harbor Marina and for value it was great especially with covered slips. The state park is good as long as you don't carry a lot of draft and you will definitely need a car, but the vehicle is probably needed at all of the three marinas This area has some amazing...

    Lake Havasu Houseboat

Lake Havasu Lake Havasu is our home town and I dont think winter boating is really what you would want, there is hardly anyone on the water (except for hardy fisherman) in the winter except on really warm days. If I were you I would do Lake Powell mainly due to its larger size and more...

    Trawlerfest highlights

I agree that little boat was cute and well done on the refit. I liked the N47 at the show and the broker had a buyer that was looking for a boat like ours but I like not having payments so will probably stay put. That N47 pulled into a slip in front of us this afternoon at Loggerhead...

    California 34 Long Range Cruiser

The 34LRC is a good well built trawler for the time and easy to spin around on a dime, predictable in sloppy water and pretty comfortable at anchor for a small boat with a full walk around deck. I wouldn't hesitate in getting another one if the time and place was right. My old 34 is now living...

Our next boat, LRC Full Displacement.

Your $175 price puts a damper on all of your wants. The trouble is that your travel route dictates a high fuel capacity which means that the easiest way to get what you want is to digger deeper or get a loan as you will need a blue water trawler which don't come cheap. You can stay with a...

Engine room camera to iPad display

Just be careful with some wireless cameras. I tried one from the stern where running cable is difficult. Both the MFD end and the stern camera end got really hot so I removed the receiver and transceiver units and tossed them in the trash. I will look at the ones Jeff recommends but having...

    Hoisting dinghy with davits

Just go on ebay or check craigslist there are a number of stern davits available pretty reasonably priced. Then take them to a powder coater if need be. Mine on my last boat worked great with little expense and good easy ingress egress to the water.
