    Replacing Galley Counter Tops

I put granite on a new counter 2 years ago, put on 7000 miles since and never an issue, still looks good. I made a template out of 1/4 inch plywood took it to the Granite shop in Orange Beach AL. Three days later I picked it up with a buddy of mine hired three guys at the dock masters office...

    Interesting Erie Canal Article

We ran the whole Erie last year from Albany to Buffalo and it was one of the highlights of our Great Loop trip. I am amazed that we can use all these canal and locks for a very small fee. Maybe that will change like everything else. Because we draft 5'7" we didn't want to go north into Canada...

    Florida fishing teenagers missing.

We liveaboard just south of the Jupiter Inlet and although the weather of late as been pretty benign once in the Gulf Stream they are going to move north at a fairly quick clip. There have been a lot of boats in the water fishing but mainly close to shore, I hope they are safe but chances are...

No insurance coverage if I go to the Bahamas

I have Seaworthy as well and we are heading to the Bahamas in 3 weeks, all Seaworthy asked for Gia our broker was $150 additional to add this region to our cruising area. On another note I found out today our Umbrella policy with State Farm will cover the Bahamas as well but not the Turks and...

    Exhaust Leak

Check your exhaust manifold if it's a cast iron one it may have cracked with age and need replacing. I had the same issue on our Northern Lights gen and replaced it with a stainless one and no more smell.

Florida to California via Panama Canal

After doing the loop and hanging out on the Palm Coast of Florida we are researching taking our 49' Defever back to California. I have a quote of $31,500 to ship to Ensenada but of late have been thinking more of taking her on her own bottom. Anyone out there actually done this trip on a...

Give the Liveaboard Life a Try (Rent Ours in the Beautiful Bay Area)

Swapping time on another persons boat, of similar size temporarily is not an issue (usually) as far as dockage agreements go as the slips are generally rented to the person. Where we are a company rents a bunch of slips and moves boats in and out as business dictates, the marina doesn't really...

    Key West trip

I recommend this route via Marathon, we did this route a few years ago and it was a great trip. However weather and fuel capacity need to be your key. Weather can get tough on the straight route, I have been on the Key West Ferry a few times from Marco and even in nice weather that area can...

Give the Liveaboard Life a Try (Rent Ours in the Beautiful Bay Area)

As long as you don't receive remuneration in any form you will be fine, even if they just covered your boat sIip rental you are technically in violation. Similar to the USCG when you hold a Captains license if we are taking friends out and they want to pay for fuel etc it then becomes a charter...

    New Seakeeper gyro

Just like any major addition to your boat you better get the design signed off by the vessel designer, engineer or builder for obvious and not obvious reasons. Even though our fin stabilization protrudes and shaves .5 knot off our hull speed I wouldn't go for a gyro if it wasn't engineer...

Give the Liveaboard Life a Try (Rent Ours in the Beautiful Bay Area)

You may want to check with your marina and insurance as sub letting normally disqualifies coverage on both sides.

    Unbelievable

Whenever I go to look at or work on a boat I automatically take my shoes off, it shows respect for the boat and the owner unless they say "no need to remove" I expect the same on my boat as well for anyone that enters the boats interior. Maybe I am the odd one out but then again I don't walk...

    Defever 44 vs 49

The 49 cockpit model is also known as the 44 + 5 which is pretty popular allowing an aft master but easier ingress and egress than most. I am still in love with our 49 RPH which is the raised pilot house but the master and v berth are close together but the engine room is huge and allows great...

    False Bilge?

Tell me that it's not April Fools day already. Small boats like wake boarding etc pump in/out to increase wake size but not aware of any trawler vessels that use sea water on purpose for ballast Back to question: Before you cut to deep drill a small pilot hole and insert a boroscope camera it...
