    Time for a new boat,

What you are describing in terms of sleeping and entertaining is going to push the limits of trailering. I would take a look at the larger Shamrocks like the 270 Mackinaw with a diesel, but that's a big boat to haul. For that matter so is the Cutwater.

Spending per capita I suppose is what Mr. DDW is citing: https://www.kff.org/other/state-indicator/per-capita-state-spending/?currentTimeframe=0&sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Per%20Capita%20State%20Spending%22,%22sort%22:%22desc%22%7D

    Interesting boats

I bet just the electric conversion was more than the asking price. Puzzling project for sure, perhaps the owner was/is an EE and was bored?

We made it! We finally splashed!

Congrats! That fine looking craft looks like it's ready to take on anything the sea can throw at it.

    What's your drug of choice?

Ok Wifey B, this is the second time you've mentioned sex in this thread. You're going to get a reputation if you continue this sort of thing. :D:D

    What's your drug of choice?

Boats. Hands down my biggest drug. Wife says I'm horribly addicted so I joined boatalcoholics anonymous but ended up buying a really nice 1955 Century off another addict in the group session so decided to quit. I could think of worse things so I've just accepted things as they are....

Trawler VS Express (Space vs Speed)?

rslifkin's response pretty much covers your question. For the trip to Cat you usually have a long period swell from the NW, although there is shadowing at times from the other islands. Generally we chose to leave very early in the morning to beat the wind coming up which can make for a more...

    We got waked...

The dauntless patrol boats do not typically run in the channel, they take the fastest route. Honestly, you have to expect wakes anywhere in the bay, if not from a navy boat then from that crazy 80' Patriot tour boat that does 40 knots and donuts all over the bay. It's not a speed controlled...

Trawler VS Express (Space vs Speed)?

I had a very similar shopping list when looking for my current boat less the second stateroom. Our Lindell is a very low volume production boat which checked all the boxes but no second stateroom. A close second was a Riviera and they made those with a second stateroom in the 38' and up. The...

    We got waked...

"sarcasm font on" The Navy owns SD Bay, you are lucky to be able to use it. "sarcasm font off" The reality is, they aren't very courteous nor do they care if your boat gets rocked. They are on the job and for many of those smaller boat they are just young kids who know little about pleasure...

    Engine Room condensation

Here is what's working for me in the PNW: 1. Make sure your bilge is totally dry. 2. If you are in a cold environment (if you are in the La Mesa as in San Diego ignore this) block off the engine room vents in winter. 3. Install a 250W oil pan heater, Wolverine or similar and put them on a...

    Need a new windlass

I had a Maxwell on my last boat and it worked well after switching the 8-plait rode with one directly from Maxwell. The unit is sensitive to the precise size and type of rode.

    Seahorse 52 LRC anyone?

Just ran across this old thread when looking for information on Seahorse Marine 52. Looks like a good value and a nice looking boat. There are a few for sale at reasonable prices. Anyone with an update on how they are holding up? Also, I'm very curious as to what happened to Kekada, I...

    Replies Regarding These Shaft Cutters

I saw those videos but how a pot line gets around a prop can be very different from how they passed a line in. I suppose if someone has them on and reports they still had an issue with a fouled prop that would be a good data point, but saying "so far so good" doesn't help unless you know you...

    Replies Regarding These Shaft Cutters

I was curious about the effectively of those. They seems a bit expensive for what they are unless they are machined from platinum. Wouldn’t take much to machine a set from scratch.

Canada extends cruise ship ban until Feb 2022

Perhaps they should pull the SS United States out of mothball and fit her for cruising again? That's the largest US built passenger ship I know of besides the Pride of America which operates out of Hawaii. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_United_States

    No boating in Canada...

I could see a temporary waiver for the Jones act happening. That would seem to be an appropriate response to the current situation. If the dramatic trend in reduction of the Corona virus continues in a couple months people will likely be ready to vacation again this summer. You won't be...

I feel sorry for this couple....

I watched the Q&A from the soggy WWII boat channel today. I came away with a slightly different impression of the two of them. I think the guy may have some skills with his hands so there is that. Wifie is a petroleum engineer if I heard right. I still don't think they will get that boat back...

I feel sorry for this couple....

This was my main point in starting this thread. There are so many true gems out there which need rescuing and would make such a great project, where once you were done you had an heirloom. This strange boat isn't. Yaba is so rotten and water logged it would never burn.
