    Replacing all electronics, Maybe

My boat came with circa 2014 Garmin electronics which the PO paid dearly for. They aren't old enough to warrant upgrading to, but there was no MFD on the upper helm, they used an iPad mirroring one of the MFD's via WiFi. I decided to add a 12" MFD up there and of course the newer units have...

    Water Hose from Dock

I really like these braded hoses like the Zero-G 4001 series. They have a brass insert for the threads as someone mentioned so they won't corrode onto the hose bib. The great thing about them is the outside doesn't break down and cause the sticky marks all over your boat when you drag the hose...

    Boats you would buy again.

I've always thought it was a common term. Anyway, it basically means you are given a task with not enough information to achieve it. For example; someone asks you to bring them a rock. You look for one and bring a nice one back and show them, then they say "no, bring me another one, this...

    Washington state ferry video

I've got to imagine that pretty much ruined all cars on the deck. You just can't ever get all the salt water out of the seams and crevices and so each of these cars will just rust out before your eyes.

    Boats you would buy again.

I was afflicted with this boating disease at a very young age as we lived over Mission Bay in San Diego. My parents were not into boats although my dad did race lightnings for a while. When I was about 13 I bugged the hell out of my dad to buy a small sailboat. The neighbors across the street...

This is a bit of a "bring me a rock" question, with all due respect.

    Collision and demasting

I was clarifying the statement you made in post 118 where you commented that the sailboat was the stand-on vessel, and had assumed you had misspoken.

    Collision and demasting

You mean make them (the sail boat) the give way vessel?

    Collision and demasting

This is great advice which I always strongly suggest when I help out new boat owners. The last thing you want to have is be relying on radar in an emergency situation and not be familiar with the sorts of inaccuracies it has with physical and AIS targets, lag, scale, etc.

    Cruiser instead of Trawler?

Some Tollycrafts don't have much wood on the exterior. This one for example: https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/1995-tollycraft-45-cockpit-motor-yacht-8988188/

    Cruiser instead of Trawler?

From summing up all of your posts Sharked it seems a trawler like Mambo42's Defever would be a good fit, especially considering your budget. Or perhaps a Defever 44 or Tollycraft in the same size range. I would put the Bayliner 48 in that category as well as I don't consider them to be...

    PSS Shaft seal maintenance time.

I just put new bellows on mine in June, it had been about 6-7 years. I was surprised how much compression set was on the old ones vs. new. They didn't show any cracking but I did get some spraying at speed which I attributed to the compression. I resurfaced the SS collar and graphite seal...

Ray McCormack Sunseeker 54 delivery to Hawaii currently underway

I'm really amazed McCormick actually piped up on the SA thread. I think he is going to regret that interaction and possible self-incriminating things he said. I'm on a few forums, and a couple that get spicy at times, but he has been pretty much eviscerated over there. One other thing that...

Fresh Water Flushing -- Water Supply Question

Then I wouldn't sleep at night thinking I will forget to open them next time I use the boat. :) This way I have two chances to make sure they are open, once when I shut the boat down and next time I use it when I do my pre-flight check.

Fresh Water Flushing -- Water Supply Question

Steve, I did leave them open initially, and this is what the guys from SBMAR recommend, but I did a test and tasted the water in the aftercooler after flushing and it was till very salty. So, there was still a fair bit of salt water being sucked into the line since the hose can't keep up with...

Fresh Water Flushing -- Water Supply Question

I'm a big believer in fresh water flushing and this year installed a better system to do it. I have a hose connection in the cockpit which goes to a 4-way tee by the engines. One line goes to each engine and one is teed into the AC coolant raw water intake. There is a low cracking pressure...

Ray McCormack Sunseeker 54 delivery to Hawaii currently underway

The other thing I don't get is if you have a shaky reputation why get all over social media and post every single step you take? On the topic of these low-end delivery skippers; I witnessed this just a few weeks ago on my dock. The owner of a Hunter 36 wanted to move his boat to HI in...

Ray McCormack Sunseeker 54 delivery to Hawaii currently underway

If you read through the 100 pages of the Boat Bum Gal sinking on SA you will get all the information you need to determine the recklessness of this guy. There are certainly a segment of delivery skippers who take "at risk" boat deliveries on. They are literally the bottom feeders of the...

Ray McCormack Sunseeker 54 delivery to Hawaii currently underway

I've been following this on SA for a while, the guys over there are pretty unfiltered and they have been dumping on the "captain" Ray pretty hard for weeks since he was involved with the sinking of Boat Bum Gal. I can't imagine why they wouldn't ship that boat vs. take it over on it's own...

    "Break" Adhesive Bond Between Materials

i would get a small bottle jack and place it between the bottom step outer corner and floor (with plywood protection). Then apply pressure to the corner up and heat to the underside metal surface and it will begin to peel up. Once you have a gap, start using wood wedges and keep peeling it up...

Need Guidance on Choosing a Boat Please

The Albin 35 Tournament Express might fit the bill, if you can find one. They made some as twins and some as single with a 420 Yanmar IIRC. I looked at a couple which were twins, but ultimately decided against one. Nice layout for a small cruiser and can get up on a plane...

    Beta generator - input pls

I have a sound shield on my Northern Lights 6kw generator and it's in the laz as well. Highly recommend it since when my generator is running you virtually can't hear it. If I pull the panels you do hear it in the salon. I also have a Gensep on the exhaust which also keeps it quiet.
