    McMaster-Carr

They are a great company. And they have solid CAD models of nearly anything in the catalog for instant download. The CAD software I use, Soildworks even has a McMaster plugin which will help keep a bill of materials along with the assembly, super useful. I love the fact I can order before 9am...

    Bad Trailer Failure

When I had a trailer boat I used these folks for trailer parts quite a bit. https://www.easternmarine.com/ Looks like you are due for a new axle at least. They aren't very expensive. I never ordered something as large as an entire axle from them so not sure how the shipping would work.

    New Member from Eastern Washington

Welcome aboard! I had a Shamrock 26 before the Lindell I have now. I'm sure you know this but, Bo Palmer who started Defiance also ran Shamrock for a while before they went out of business. Shamrocks are similar to Defiance but inboard vs. outboard. Sadly, inboards small trailer boats were...

Realities of seasonal Seattle - San Diego run

I'll echo Peter's comments about boating in SoCal being a native San Diegan. And if you were planning on boating in here the past two winters you would have been disappointed as the weather was very poor all winter long. It's still not great but at least the rain has stopped. During the...

    Interesting boats

That has a really beautiful interior and has clearly been well taken care of over the years. The listing states the hull was sounded for hull integrity, so there should be information on it. I suppose the teak deck attachment would be screwed down, so obviously and area of concern but should...

    Lurker finally joining

Welcome aboard! I don't think I'm alone in being curious about the refit to diesel of your boat. Can you provide some details and some pics? It's a beautiful boat.

Dometic VacuFlush head, my first dive into troubleshooting

FYI, if you are so inclined to shop at Amazon, Dometic has a storefront, so you can get genuine Vacuflush parts there, but as Peggy says, be wary of aftermarket parts...

    Fuel additives

Yes, I use Stanadyne performance additive on every tank. I've noticed easier starts and it seems to give a bit less smoke on startup, but that could be a placebo effect.

    screw mounting in cored deck

Guess I'm a bit confused. What is the bolt in there for? Typically, you would seal up the bottom of the hole with duct tape, or some other means and pot the hole up to the top, keep adding as needed until it gels. Then redrill as needed once it's cured. I wouldn't worry too much about...

    Interesting boats

Anyone else notice the interesting exhaust setup on that Northern? It has what looks like a dry muffler and very long line over to the shower nozzle on the down side. I suppose that makes for little chance of ingestion of salt water into the turbo/engine. One would think it's also pretty quiet.

Congrats! That will be a great marina to station her at.

    Ahoy from Eureka, CA

Welcome to the forum! Wife grew up in Arcata, I've spent some time around the area, beautiful place. You have some serious seas outside the harbor, that's for sure!

    Suggestions needed for removal

This, plus pounding on the end on the inside will likely mushroom it and make it very difficult to pull through the hole. Slow, steady motion is preferred.

Upgrade electronics package for 2008 Helmsman 38

I think you will learn the Garmin setup pretty quickly, it's has an intuitive GUI, especially with the touchscreen. I know some will poo poo the Garmin system, but I've been happy with mine which was installed by the PO and although they are vintage 2014, they work fine. I just added a...

    Some Suggestions for Boat Search

Ready's post is spot on. Native San Diegan here and been boating all my life in SoCal. As Peter said, it can be a frustrating place to powerboat. Catalina is a long way usually into the swell so not something you would do for a short trip, you need to plan for a very long weekend or better...

Repower twin prop with single engine

I've been mulling this over for a couple of days ( I clearly need to get a life). One thought was if it would be more practical and efficient to make a spilt drive off a single engine using timing belts and a custom assembly to drive two transmissions offset on either side of the single...

Fresh Water Flushing -- Water Supply Question

The concern of over pressurizing the water pump when the engine is off (when turning on the line pressure before or leaving it on after the engine is running) is easily prevented. Just add a check valve leading to something like the generator raw water, or AC cooling. That way the through...

Repower twin prop with single engine

These boats sell in the 30-50K range with good power. It's hard to imagine it would be worth it to repower one unless it dropped in your lap for free and you had a line on replacement engines for <10K. Sorry to be a Debbie downer on this but I don't see much upside to this deal. If the boat...

    Pressure testing the shaft log?

I see no reason you couldn't run a sleeve inside the old shaft log if you had the clearance. You might have some trouble getting the right sized tube though. It's possible you could turn the OD and ID of a thicker G10 tube at a machine shop to size. Also possible to create a boring tool to...

    Cooling System - Theoretical

I'm not sure the additional complexity would be worth it vs. doing proper maintenance in a timely manor to the raw water side of an existing setup. It's really not that bad if you service them correctly. I've pretty much solved my issues by fresh water flushing the system after use and the...

Removal of Sand/Epoxy finish on foredeck.

How about a strong chemical stripper like Aircraft Paint Stripper? It's very difficult to sand a sand impregnated 2 part paint. Perhaps try a small area and see how it goes? Aircraft is pretty nasty stuff, but effective.
