    Music favs

A few years ago I went to see them at show and this weird old man walked on stage at the beginning and I thought "someone needs to escort that strange looking homeless man off the stage". Turns it it was just Donald Fagan. Some people don't age so well. It was a great concert despite the...

I'm a huge fan of Steely Dan but that video is just downright strange. I think you must need some medical marijuana to understand it.;)

On the way to the tuna grounds off Mex. You all seem to like sun rises/set.

    Cruising around Cat

We were there the same weekend. Probably some of the nicest weather we've had in Cat. Didn't get up for Buccaneer Days unfortunately but did have some fresh lobster on opening day so got that in. Got home the Monday just before the lightning show so dodged that one. Had no idea it was coming!

Favorite picture so far.. What's yours?

This was one of my favorite and became a screen saver to make sure I remember why I'm at work. Many of you will recognize this is looking over at Orcas island from near the ferry landing on Shaw. The second one is the night in the same anchorage. ( I just couldn't chose one)

    Advice/ insights sought

    Found this online for a similar boat: Engine, electrics, tanks : 2 X 300cv D4 Volvo (1300 hrs) - Generator - Top speed about 14 kts, cruising 8,5 @ 2000 rpm (consumption 24 liters, total for both engines) - Fuel 3000 L - Water: 800 L -

That's a really beautiful boat, never heard of Rhea before either. AC would be pretty easy to add I'd expect. No performance numbers but with twin 300hp I'd assume it could do a fast cruise of 15 knots or so? Very nice indeed!

    Prop size and type

Generally it's not worth it to retrofit carbed engines to FI if the engine are tuned properly. The efficiency gains are minimal. You do get better starts but what comes with that is greater complexity and more difficult troubleshooting. Depending on the prop you have there might be some...

    new windless and mission creep

So the Yak shaving is done and I have to say I'm really impressed with the Easy Start I put in. The AC used to peg the current meter at 50 amps but now it doesn't go past 10 when starting up. It was expensive but at least it works well and I can now run the AC off the generator no problem...

I did! Might need to move up a day and go Thursday.

    Cruising around Cat

Thanks for the reminder, I'd forgotten about that. Not sure if we will get up to Two Harbors but now I'm a bit more concerned over getting a mooring in Avalon on Friday the 1st with all the shenanigans' going on that weekend. As I mentioned, there is a new ice cream place next to Antonio's on...

    Cruising around Cat

We are headed up on October 1st for a few days, really looking forward to it. Don't think we will make it to the backside which is such a special place. I used to take my Shamrock around back and fish by myself with no other boats around. Simply awesome. Hoping for better weather on the way...

    Mercury Outboard

Not to be flippant, but don't we all drive around these huge diesels which belch soot and unburnt fuel? I really think a small displacement 2 stroke is a drop in the bucket in comparison. And I had a lot of fuel which ended up in the water when I had my 4-stroke Yamaha since it was constantly...

    Mercury Outboard

I've had my fair share of issues with 4-stroke outboards, no thanks. Went back to a 2-stroke OMC (Johnson 8hp) from the 80's and love it. Starts every time, simple to work on, parts are available and it runs like a scalded cat. The only downside is mixing the oil, but with modern low ash...

    new windless and mission creep

I think we have discovered a common symptom of the disease. Yak shaving, I won't forget that one!

    new windless and mission creep

Don't even talk to me about "mission creep", I'm the Zen master of that phrase.... Current one is: let's get the salon AC to work off the generator. - Might as well improve the ducting while I have it out and add an actual filter on the return. - Oh wait, the wiring and breakers are all screwed...

    Finally ?

I've always attributed that saying to casual boat owners, not true boaters like the type who spend time on a site like this.

    $200m Lawsuit against boat maker

Tournament boats are not Bayliners. You power off a tournament boat hard and it will plunge the bow down since the prop does not freewheel as easily and acts as a brake. It can be pretty severe and done at the wrong time along with an incoming swell can swamp the boat. That doesn't happen...

    $200m Lawsuit against boat maker

I totally disagree with this judgement. That Malibu is a performance, tournament ski boat designed for use on flat water. Use of it in a rental fleet in an area which is prone to large waves or wakes is irresponsible and this lies on the rental agency, not the boat manufacturer. If you don't...

    Fuel Burn for Marine engines.

You added HP so it would be expected you would need to add pitch (or diameter if you can swing it) to get the correct WOT for the extra 50hp. I was referring to over-propping a boat where the diameter or pitch does not allow WOT. In that case the fuel burn curve will be heavy for a given RPM...

    Fuel Burn for Marine engines.

Fuel burn is also dependent on how it's propped. Over propped and it's going to burn more than the standard curve.

    Tipping?

I'm a fan of tipping when you get good service from an individual. I did it at our last yard to the guys who did the launch and retrieve. I think we got very good service from them and I was able to get away with some things I probably shouldn't have ;^) In the end I actually gave a nice tip...

    Fun New West Marine Policy

A big part of the survey was honing in on the sorts of purchased made in the past year and then narrowing down why or why you didn't buy from WM. In my case the programming of the survey was more interested in watersports (towable tubes, coolers, etc.) and not general boat parts or maintenance...
