Thanks for all the replies. I have ordered a new pump, switch, and float. I will check for voltage as well. All good info as always.

    My bilge pump blew up

My limited understanding of the wiring is a breaker switch at the panel, an “off/auto/manual” switch in the bathroom. I have been looking for a fuse because I initially thought that was the problem and couldn’t find one. So did the motor short because it was jammed up, or short due to the...

    My bilge pump blew up

Hey all, let me preface this with I’m pretty sure I wired it up correctly?. So I noticed the sump pump in the bathroom was wired not so good so I thought I would improve it. Since then, the pump has not worked. When I tried tackling it again today, I turned the breaker on and after a few minutes...

    Ford lehman 120 #6 cylinder

You should have a petcock on the fore end of your engine block. Make sure you open that up and take the radiator cap off. You should get Coolant coming out. If not, you have an air bubble. It’s one of my pre-trip checks. I also did the expansion tank replacement. Was pretty simple.

Marine electrical needed in Seattle Wa

Hey guys, i recently went to install a new Garmin GPSMAP and my head almost exploded while starring at my electrical panel. I'd like to upgrade to a more modern panel and have it wired correctly. I have 2 questions 1. Who do you recommend in Seattle? 2. Anyone do something similar and can...

    Fiberglassing over seacock flange

Thanks. Someone called it correctly, I can’t even close the raw water seacock. I’m replacing every through hole ASAP. Anyone know of a good yard where I can do the work myself in the Seattle area?

    Fiberglassing over seacock flange

Hey, is glassing over a seacock flange normal? I feel like a PO did it to strengthen it...but now it’s my mess to deal with. I would like to cut away the glass to see what I’m dealing with, but worried it may be the only thing holding the seacocks in place. Any suggestions?

    Help identify this tool

Going through my new boat I came across this tool. Thinking it’s a hose clamp. Let me know if you recognize it and if it’s missing a piece. Thanks

    Mechanical inspection

Man, you guys are money. I appreciate all the tips. My list just keeps getting longer, but that’s ok. Fractal- I thought I saw you were in La Conner. I will be moored at the La Conner Marina until a spot in Seattle opens up. If you’re up for coming by I’d love to pick your brain.

    Repacking Stuffing Box

That’s what I thought Hahaha, thanks for the replies. I am a fireman and immediately thought making the adjustment while under way was a sure fire way to end up in the ER.

    Repacking Stuffing Box

Probably a dumb question When someone says to adjust underway....you don’t mean with the shaft spinning do you? I would assume you tighten...put in gear for a bit, take out of gear, then re-tighten if needed. Is that correct?

    Mechanical inspection

Thanks, I figure I can do almost anything myself. If I don’t get it right the first time, I think I will still be ahead if I get it right on the 2nd or 3rd try. I saw a laundry list of small stuff that the current owner paid to have done. Was $18k for very basic things

    Mechanical inspection

Fgarriso- Thanks, I appreciate your input. My mind certainly isn’t made up. I will say that I’m looking at boats that are 40+ years old for a reason though. I know that anything I get will need a lot of work. The question is if I can do it myself. KOliver- You mentioned the transom being Airex...

    Mechanical inspection

Fractal- Yep, that red arrow (Chrysler to Lehman connection) was the hottest point. The transmission felt great. I had a mechanic change the fluid before the sea trial. KOliver- Thanks for the info on the lazarette. I like the idea of a larger swim platform and keeping holes above the water...

Just had the survey done Ok.....where to begin. First of all, thanks for all the replies. It is obvious that the community on here is a pretty cool one. Seems like everyone really helps out where they can. As the title states, I just had the survey done today. The boat is 41 years old, so I...

Oil samples Ok, I got the oil samples back. The only one that came back with red flags is the transmission. The mechanic just stated that the oil needed to be changed. At what point is it indicating that the transmission is toast? Are there any tests I can do to further check the transmission...
