domestic water pump runs-on when tank is empty

Thank you for the inputs. The Square D pressure sensor seems like robust, fail-safe solution and I will install one. I will also improve my sight-glass and look into a flow-meter for more precision.

I have found this device but the price is $417  https://www.groco.net/products/pumps/accessories/noflo-dry-run-protection/noflo-7500

domestic water pump runs-on when tank is empty

The Square D device suggested by Westiculo and FF could be the answer but I don't know how it would be connected.

domestic water pump runs-on when tank is empty

Googling "water pump run dry protection' I found this one which seems to be what I need but am not certain as the spec are not very detailed: https://www.comet-pumpen.de/en/products-rv/pumps/immersion-pumps/accessories/pump-dry-run-control.html

domestic water pump runs-on when tank is empty

Thanks for the insights. I agree monitoring the water level is a good way to prevent the pump running dry and important in other ways. In my boat this is not impossible but somewhat inconvenient. I have a total of 7 fresh water tanks, the two aft ones under the bunks in the main cabin and the...

domestic water pump runs-on when tank is empty

When out of fresh water, my water pump just runs on. This can potentially lead to problems such as overheating the pump motor and breaking it or running down the batteries. Is there a simple solution to this problem? For example a timer that measures how long the pump has been running...

    Considering going solar

I am currently increasing the number of panels. For the last two seasons I had three 330 W nominal capacity panels for a total of almost 1 kW. I am now adding three more panels for a total nominal capacity of almost 2kW. With the 1 kW nominal power I hardly used the generator. Only once...

Pre-purchase inq re Grand Banks window leak damage

The seam compound is in terrible condition. It looks like its has disintegrated. It needs to be replaced which is a lot of work but doable. And all those visible screws will need to be reset deeper and plugged with bungs. Again, it is a lot of work but doable. The question is if there...

    Another Anchor Question

There is no need to trade-off anchoring technique and anchor quality. One can and should strive for both. Good anchoring technique with a poor anchor is still sub-optimal and potentially unsafe. I believe a perfectly set anchor that is unable to re-set itself in a 3:00 AM, 180 degree wind...

Old anchor that I'm debating to produce, what do you think?

Looks like it will set and re-set reliably but not sure about ultimate holding strength unless oversized.

    Another Anchor Question

My previous boat was a 1979 GB42. It had a CQR when I bought it but I hated that anchor. It was hard to set and inspired no confidence that it would re-set in a wind change in the middle of the night. I changed it for a Delta which performed very well. As you can see in the photographs the...

    Fuel Polishing

There are lot's of opinions on polishing but I would have thought that with a day-tank there would be no need to polish. The fuel doesn't sit around for long in the day-tank and when you refill it you are doing so with just filtered fuel. Any water or junk in the main tanks would be caught as...

    Hard dinghy carrying methods

I had an 8' Walker Bay which rowed very well. It was very light and I was able to get up on the swim platform on its side (flotation tube on the platform, dinghy hull facing aft) and just tie there. To bring it up from the water I would have the dink alongside the swim platform and then...

Bimini top replacement and hard top advise please!

The panels are rated at 320 watts each. I am not concerne3d about the added weight high up. The panels weigh around 20 kilograms each so the combined weight is not that significant, say when compared to a person for example.

Bimini top replacement and hard top advise please!

I installed three solar panels on to my Bimini frame given the high cost of replacing the canvas (€900). The panels were €200 each two years ago but are even cheaper now. I reinforced Biminini structure but I find it is still a bit "bouncy". I am now considering replacing this with a custom...

    Refinishing teak parquet?

I finished my parquet sole a couple of months ago. I wanted to go down to the wood before varnishing. I tried the belt sander but it left a very rough, uneven finish and i found the gouging risk unaceptable. I found the random-orbital sander was not able remove the varnish or, at least was...

Looking for recommendations for a lightweight, all-purpose rigid dinghy

Agreed. For light weight the Walker Bay is probably hard to beat. I had a Walker Bay 8 which I used as a secondary dinghy with good results. It rowed very well, sailed OK but would not plane so the 4 hp I had was never used near WOT. Two people could easily man-handle it on to the swim...

    Genset not starting, just buzzes

Could be a stuck starter solenoid. Happened to my Onan at the beginning of last summer. In my case it was hard to reach but I managed to loosen it by hand and added some WD40 to the piston.
