    Lehman 120 Exhaust Elbow

Thank you, Beejay. The hull was originally white but a few years ago, when it needed to be re-painted, we went with flag-blue. I think this visually stretches-out the boat, making it look a bit sleeker and less bulky than in the original white.

    Shower Problem

An alternative might be to disconnect the drain hose at the other end, connect it to a water hose, turn on the fawcet and try to clear the obstruction with reverse pressure.

Boat names that just have to be shared.

Hard to read but the centre console with the quad outboards has it's name in the hull: "I Don't Care Too" It is actually a tender to the sailing thing behind it "Infinity".

    Lehman 120 Exhaust Elbow

At least it is not the original elbow. It is an American Diesel replacement so it may not be that old. And it does look pretty solid. Replacing it with a new one, just to be safe if you don't know how old it is, would only cost you a couple of hundred bucks for the parts. If the bolts come...

    1977 Grand Banks 42 - $389,000

The owner must not like teak ... And they destroyed the flying bridge to put a skylight!!!

Boat names that just have to be shared.

I named my first cruising boat "Irrational". My wife thought it was a very appropriate name given the cost of buying and maintaining a boat. I named my next boat "Triple Trouple" after our three children. There was a bit of "lost in translation" and this is the name the yard (in Spain) gave it:

Here are a couple of names from boats in my marina I think are just plain wrong:

    House Battery System Configuration Brainstorming

A battery-watering system will solve that problem. Flow-Rite is a good brand.

1979 42' Grand Banks Electrical System

My previous boat was a 1979 GB42 as well. Below is photograph of the forward engine-room bulkhead. Lots of wiring but not sure it is the AC circuits.

    Coffee making underway

When anchored or travelling in calm waters I tend use a Moka pot like the one below. I will add preheated water so the coffee is not overheated too long. With preheated water it brews in a couple of minutes. I then add hot water to it in the cup to make an Americano. When underway and boat...

    Should I fear steel tanks?

My almost 50 years old “black iron” (carbon steel) fuel tanks don’t leak and have no sign of rust. The aluminum fuel tanks in my 20 year old Avon Seasport Jet tender did develope a small leak which I repaired with epoxy. I think it depends on the tank getting wet or not.

    GB 32 Woodie Wiring Diagram

In the Library of this forum there are a couple of manuals for GB42s. I would imagine the gauge wiring is similar to that of of a 32'. To access the manuals section click on "Library" on the upper right.

    Confused by semi-displacement

Any "semi-displacement" boat could cross the Atlantic given enough fuel, cojones and luck. The Flemings are not particularly suited to this but it has been done. For example Beluga did and made it all the way to my home port in Menorca where it was was based for several years...

    What fabric for Sun Shade?

Mesh can be plenty strong. I had a large awning made from "marine-grade" mesh fabric for the carport in my house and it stood up very well to strong winds and the elements in general. It was aproximately 5 metres by 5 metres. I used mesh so water would not accumulate. Depending on how you...

Dinghy anchor - what & how used

I have two anchors for the dinghy: a small Danforth type and a small claw. I usually drop the claw in the water and take the "Danforth" to the shore. I use the "clothesline" system to shuttle the dink from and to the shore. I have tried folding grapnel anchors but found them to be useless in...

Did they take that second mast from the Prince Albert's GB50?

    anchor

I had a claw and didn't like it. It was not an original Bruce. It was a shiny SS thing that came with an earlier boat and must have cost a fortune, but did not set well. I had better luck with an oversized Delta and my current Rocna. If I remember correctly Steve's videos showed the Mantus...

    Grand Banks Europa 43

Both my current GB and a previous 42' that I owned can take 5' seas on the nose without issue, except for some spray. I haven't had issues with seas from the stern. On the beam, though, it can get uncomfortable, particularly on the short chop we get in the Med, so I often "tack" to avoid...

53ft, 2 Hands, No Thruster - Crazy or EZ?

My boat will also move sideways using the technique described by Art but I need to go over 1600 RPM to get going. But, sometimes one needs to move just bow sideways, not the stern or the whole boat. That's when the bow thruster helps.
