Best option to power 15CF 120v Refrigerator for a few hours

You don't need extra battery power if you're underway. Use an inverter. The extra load will easily be covered by the alternators. It's only at anchor that batteries matter. I didn't take that to be the OP's challenge.

2x Dc2Dc in opposite direction, other ideas?

I think if it were me I'd be happy to use the LI bank to keep the AGMs at 100% when at anchor. Better to cycle the larger LI bank than the AGMs. I don't see any issues with a 30a charger. I think Peter is right to be concerned about an energy loop. You only want this charger on when the...

2x Dc2Dc in opposite direction, other ideas?

I've contemplated having bi-directional charging between banks. There are cases where it makes sense, and this may be one, IMO. I haven't done it, but once you have shunts there are tools that can turn the chargers on/off based on SoC between banks. I think that Victron Cerbo can do this. Or...

Cruise 10-15kts with OB power under 30'?

I think that's an overly broad statement. It's certainly true for planing hulls, but lots of downeast designs are designed to cruise at 2-3 x hull speed, and do it very well. My experience with them is that there really isn't a hump to get over.

Cruise 10-15kts with OB power under 30'?

Agreed. The Sisu 22 I mentioned earlier had the same designer. Eastern Boats makes a range of downeast outboard powered boats, including several variations of the Rosborough 246. https://www.easternboats.com/

    Interesting boats

His best bet may be to find a charitable group and donate it at a hefty valuation. Quite a few of the surplus boats were donated by the USN over the years to various groups, and the rest tendered out, usually for not much $$.

    Interesting boats

I recently saw a sister ship in FL that had a pilothouse built in the middle. Don't know how much the interior was modified, but it looked pretty good on the outside. The boat was painted naval grey. Should have taken a pic. I have a 50' version of the hull, originally built as an open boat...

Looking for a part for older Norcold fridge

I have a newer version of your unit, so sorry I can't help with specifics, but I did successfully replace the power supply on my unit. As EngNate says, it felt like a bit of an expensive gamble. My breakthrough came when I realized that Norcold uses the same off-the-shelf compressors and...

    390 Single Screw, Stern Crawl

If the stern is pulled left in R, put the rudder hard over left. Prop wash in F will then move the stern to the right.

Cruise 10-15kts with OB power under 30'?

The Sisu 22 has caught my eye. Nice small downeast style boat.

    Fuel economy

I still think there's easy pickings to be had by just going slow. So with twins, how low are you willing to run them? The only way I'd consider shutting one down is if I wasn't going slow enough with both at slow speed, maybe 900 rpm or less. I'm assuming diesel There's a member here who...

    390 Single Screw, Stern Crawl

Not useless, just requiring a different technique. I have a fairly strong preference for docking with reverse torque pulling away from the dock rather than towards it. My experience is that it gives me better control over positioning of the stern coming in, and easier reverse exit. I don't...

    390 Single Screw, Stern Crawl

Yep. Me too. As long as you aren't trying to go too fast there is little point in moving the rudder back and forth.

    Remove flybridge, add solar

Nicely done. Boat looks great as a hardtop IMO.

    Bow Thruster Stops Working

Are they really meant to shear? I think on my Vetus bow thruster the prop would disintegrate before the drive pin.

    Motorbike on a trawler

My experiment has gone well so far. I've loaded and unloaded unassisted a couple of times, and the bike is easy to secure on deck. I was a bit concerned about lock wall clearance on the port side, but the bike is just inboard enough to not hit the wall.

    New Suzuki 15hp outboard update

I can hit the rev limiter with my 20 hp Tohatsu when alone and flat out in calm water. At close to 30 mph that's fast enough for me, so I take it as a signal to throttle back a bit :-). It was unnerving when I first encountered it shortly after breaking in the motor. Props are always...

2023 cruising, So Where are You Going?

Not really. I'll be in Toronto for ten days, then have plans to meet guests in Lockport ten days later. Haven't done the south shore, so will probably go across to Rochester and on to Oswego, weather permitting. You're on that stretch of the lake, right? I've never traveled that area.

2023 cruising, So Where are You Going?

I'm on the southern part of the Trent-Severn heading back towards Toronto, where I started my season about a month ago. I had originally planned to head for the east coast this summer, but am instead staying more local. Lake Ontario and the NYS canals in June, then up to Lake Huron for the...

    Cruising the Trent Severn Waterway

It's open now. Bacchus, I suspect your memory is better than mine :-). I mislabeled the lock in my earlier post. No matter. All good now. I'm just coming up on Peterborough. Very quiet on the Trent section.

Information on going Intercoastal Waterway from Cape May to Atlantic City

Hippo, I didn't see any attacks on your PoV or experience. I've spent enough time offshore to understand and validate your perspective, but I've also enjoyed staying as close to shore as possible on my trawlers. I'm at about 22k NM so far. I'm cruising a river as I type with 3' of water under...

NMEA 2000 Rudder angle output Destination

I think your experience is with NG only. The OP's old AP predates NG/N2k, hence the need for a converter. It sounds like Humphree wants the OP to use their hardware. It is critical input data, so maybe their discrimination of the source is understandable.

    Caterpillar 3116 Replacement on a 42

I did a similar operation a few years ago. Congratulations. Did you use the mobile crane through the ceiling for the lift?

    What are High Engine Hours??

I think that's right. Just to point out the obvious here, we're talking about equipment manufactured ~40 years ago. You're potentially facing shortages of parts and skilled labour. I've come to evaluate older boats at least in part on how much it would cost to replace/rebuild the engine...
