If it was a gas engine i would have put MMO in the spark plug holes but it is my first diesel I wanted to make sure before i bought it the engine was not seized so i turned it over. After purchase and a bunch of checks of the fuel i wanted to see if the old fuel would fire up so the generator...

    Adding AC to Mark 1

Thanks! I was thinking that would be the best spot but wanted to confirm my thoughts.

4D or 8D for starting a 6 cylinder John Deere

I have 2 group 27's in parallel on my Cat 3208 and it has as much power as the 8d and easier to lift.

    Old diesel fuel

I am currently running 20 year old Diesel. I did treat it and filter it 100% but it runs well. unlike Gas with ethanol diesel does not go bad quickly. It can get contaminated with algae but even that fuel is good. If you have an algae problem your filters will clog. It's likely worth...

    Adding AC to Mark 1

Well that's good to know for sure. It looks like 16k is about the optimum size. I have heard good things about Marinair but the Valair unit also caught my eye. Having variable speed compressor certainly has an advantage but worries me since is a newer concept that may take off but also could...

    Adding AC to Mark 1

All good info! Thanks I was a bit concerned about startup current and the generator but as long as I'm not running the oven, water heater and AC I think I am good.

    Adding AC to Mark 1

So we are considering adding AC to the Mark 1 There are many brands of AC and several options. I did search previous posts but the market is changing daily so looking for current opinions also and maybe a thought or two on size and location. I have a 3kw generator so startup is a consideration...

    stale fuel vs. tank condensation

Fill it and don't worry. I just brought a boat out of hibernation with full tanks of diesel from 2002. Thinking if would have nasty fuel i drained the tanks completely to find a shiny fuel tank inside. it appears the fuel had been treated and i treated it last fall but it starts and runs well...

    20 years later

Well a bit if the story is this Mark 1 has been at a club in shrink wrap since 2002 Its had to believe that the wrap lasted this long but the former owner did a very good job with the support and protection of the shrink wrap so it lasted till about 2020 without a hole in it. I noticed this boat...

    Cat 3208 stays running

So the problem is not solved. I thought it was the relay before the ETR solenoid but that is working correctly. I think i ang getting some kind of feedback. checking at Solenoid its 12V when running when i turn off the key its around 2V DC I should have checked AC but i didn't think of it. I...

    tachometer issues

Well i took apart the tach to a point it won't go back together but wanted to know what happened... it does seem like it lost it's magnetic memory. i checked my bridge tach and it too has lost its zero. i guess 20 years of sitting at 1k made it stay there... its not frozen because it does move...

Burping Coolant in Yanmar 6LYA engine

It may take a few CFM to vacuum down a C7, It may need the valve shut when the needle stops going down and let the compressor recover. The other benefit is that once its at a vacuum let it sit for 15-20 min to check for leaks.

    tachometer issues

So I am picking up a new Faria Tach and is there a reliable way to check the accuracy of it once installed. I am fairly new to Diesel engines and i never knew how many different ways diesels check RPM till my tach didn't read correctly. What I know is its a 3208 with a tach drive sensor off the...

    tachometer issues

Just an update on the Tachometer It looks like the gage has a zero issue. it will not Zero with power applied or without. It moves freely but does not go back to anywhere near zero. I took it apart as far as I can and the magnetic memory zero point is off. Time for a new gage.

Burping Coolant in Yanmar 6LYA engine

I never knew air-lifts existed until last year and my first try had zero air pockets. I never even had to top it off after running. It was worth it on the time I saved adding coolant alone since it pulls in 100% all at once in a pretty short time.

    tachometer issues

I did look at it closer last night and it has a wire to select 8,6,4 and it looks to have calibration on each. I tried to get the one for the 8 cyl to zero and its does not Zero. I may give it more effort tonight. it does look like it will disassemble so I'll give it a try. If I make it worse it...

It has some holes but I am not sure if they are adjustment holes. I'll look closer.

    tachometer issues

Looking at pictures I took it looks to have a wire that is moved from 8,6,4 for different configurations. maybe just a bad connection?
