    Alternator Output Question

9 times out of 10 when the gauge is reading lower than what is measured at the batts or alternator its due to corrosion on contacts or in plug breaks/terminal strips and especially grounds. It can be a bear to track down. But changing a gauge wont fix it. I would start by measure votage at the...

Changing out the sight tubes on fuel tank for remote tank/senders

Thanks. I just wanted to share it for the few people that may have a similar predicament and dont want to spend a ton. Also the fuel system is powered of a breaker I relabeled "Helm DC". This powers just a few things at the lower helm like a flexible led gooseneck light, USB chargers and other...

Changing out the sight tubes on fuel tank for remote tank/senders

Just got them on Amazon. When I got them it was around $35 per kit. Now its $44. Still a good price. They have senders from 4 inches to 19 inches https://amzn.to/3ORJuSq

Changing out the sight tubes on fuel tank for remote tank/senders

The location of the valves made it very difficult to get in behind the engine area and open the valves. Many say just leave the valves open and say they have done so for years. I dont find that as a safe practice IMO. I have changed hundreds of broken Tygon, PVC and poly tubes on aircraft over...

Changing out the sight tubes on fuel tank for remote tank/senders

A while ago I posted this idea to open it up for criticism. I had no gauges on the boat only sight tubes. No major issues were brought up so I went ahead and ordered the pieces. 3 inch aluminum tube .125 wall 6061T6 and some bungs. Welded those up with a spool gun Not pretty, but pressure...

Thruster Upgrades on a Camano Troll - Convince me not to do it

I personally would just add the stern thruster and then use the boat and assess the situation from there.

Northern Lights Genny Oil Pressure and Engine Water Temperature

Its almost certainly going to be this range for oil PSI gauges US ohm range (240 - 33 Ohm), 1/8" NPTF And from your wire diagram you posted oil pressure will be the blue wire you showed earlier. And as per your diagram it is a single wire gauge that is grounded through the block. Your oil PSI...

Northern Lights Genny Oil Pressure and Engine Water Temperature

Got it. Sorry for the late reply. So my next question is: do you know if the genny has the sensors installed into the engine? An oil pressure sender and water temp sender? You will have to physically see if they are installed. There may be no sensors installed and only switches to activate...

Northern Lights Genny Oil Pressure and Engine Water Temperature

You can do this easily. But are you saying you want to add another set of gauges to install in another place so that you have 2 gauge panels? O just change out existing panels on the NL panel. If you just want to put in your choice of gauge then you just need to purchase the correct gauge with...

    Bow or Stern Thruster

I made this quick overview of the Dickson hydraulic stern thruster today since there is very little info on them. https://youtu.be/oV4mVbDxX1s I need to add some weight in the aft:lol: Damn thing is cavitating. I just need to fill my water tanks:ermm:

    Bow or Stern Thruster

Just to add a reference point for you, I have a Tung Hwa 31 with a Perkins 120 hp engine. It is essentially a copy of your IG. It too is terrible backing in anything more than light breeze or current. However, when I bought it it was equipped with a Dickson Stern Thruster. It is a hydraulic...

I need some help and advice on Radar mast placement and radar operation

Great point. I will have to put an inclinometer fastened down to some reference point and observe next time I go out. I dont think the pitch changes much but I was never really paying much attention.

I need some help and advice on Radar mast placement and radar operation

I already have a ton of 1 1/4 as well as some 3 inch. So that works. Ill have to incorporate a way to fold it too. I have 4 fancy marine hinges that are premade to insert into the 1 1/4 and pre beveled for welding.

I need some help and advice on Radar mast placement and radar operation

All fantastic information and feedback. I think I have a good grasp on things now. I need to get back on the boat and stare at it a bit to see whats possible in various configurations. I am actually leaning towards an arch right up front over the helm just higher than the bimini by a few inches...

I need some help and advice on Radar mast placement and radar operation

Thanks for that Jeff. That is exactly the information I was looking for. Ill have to read some Garmin info since it sounds like they covered this topic somewhere. But I appreciate your great explanation. I can lower the bimini a bit. Its too tall anyways and makes the boat look a bit goofy. I...
