    Suggestions needed for removal

Its not officially a win until we see the clapping monkey. Congrats on getting the tube out. Is that an improvised slide hammer, or some other puller arrangement? Edit: now i see the slide hammer on the ground. Missed that the first look.

Looking for convenient pump for dewatering bilges other than hand pump

The little drill-powered pumps work pretty well for what you suggest, and they take up almost no space when not being used. Ryobi and others make them. I have one on the boat that I use for all kinds of things, including removing excess water. Can’t remember the brand that I have but I’m sure...

    Chain and anchor wash down

I think a raw water washdown for the anchor and chain makes perfect sense. That is what we have and use it all the time to clean the chain and anchor as it goes into the chain locker. Then you can always hit the chain in the locker with a freshwater rinse when available, such as at a marina stop.

Swapping AGM Batteries for Lithium Lifepo4

Brooksie, The subject of this thread is Lifepo4 batteries, which are a different chemistry than what is used in cars. Fire on boats is scary, but we don’t need to stop using all batteries because some other kind of battery in some other application has increased fire risk. A properly installed...

Solar Mounting - rail mounts or adhesive on hdpe blocks?

Firehoser’s system looks solid and seems like a good option. I have successfully used mounting blocks and like that approach. HDPE won’t hold adhesive, but other materials will. Both systems that I set up, I made plywood blocks from 2 layers of 3/4” ply. You can fully waterproof them with a...

That is a great list. I’m filing that away for future use. Leave it to a former delivery captain to understand the variables. Thanks for the info.

US Couple in Caribbean feared dead

Ditto? Aren’t you the guy that just equated Caribbean crime to locking your doors in Manhattan? To wear old clothes and stay out of the worst neighborhoods and you’ll be fine? We have travelled a fair amount to many countries including pretty extensive time in the Caribbean. Also traveling in...

    Lawsuit Rocks the Yacht-Sales World

Don’t use brokers if you think they are so bad. Or choose one of the many good ones. Ten percent is too much? Negotiate a lower fee. You might/will get less knowledge, experience, commitment, and fewer services, but you will pay a lower fee. Sometimes it works out refuse to pay market fees and...

Do you have any heat shield/insulated wrap on the exhaust? Something that looks like that can come off the insulation with age and vibration.

    Yacht Maintenance App or Software?

I’m in the Excel spreadsheet camp. Until I begin managing a large fleet of boats (never) I just don’t feel the need for all record keeping/management to be integrated into one app. I have one spreadsheet that includes scheduled maintenance tasks for all systems, by system. I put model and...

“new posts” doesn’t work correctly via mobile browser

The only time that happens for me is if I’m not signed into the site. I’m using Safari on iOS as well as Firefox on a PC and they both act the same as long as I didn’t get signed out. I know you wouldn’t overlook that, so there must be some glitch that doesn’t always present itself.

    Need engine advise

It is worth considering that even though rational analysis says the hours are not a problem, there are a lot of future buyers out there that shy away from higher-hours boats. It may still be a great boat for you, but keep in mind when figuring value/purchase price. You may have to discount it...

Weebles - Day in Cruising Life

That Seapiper looks an awful lot like a Nordhavn 35. Either way, your point about not needing an expedition yacht is a good one. Cruising is definitely a participation sport. Hopefully all that work keeps us young. Your posts are always entertaining and interesting. Keep them coming.

    Salon FLoor Refinishing....

Not to get too deep in the weeds on this, but sawdust will darken when mixed with epoxy and is likely darker than the solid wood around it when used as a patch. You can compensate by using lighter sawdust from lighter color wood sometimes. Bottom line is to test the method before you commit.

    Interesting boats

Voyaging Under Power is a classic but the first edition is pretty dated, being almost 50 years old at this point. Leishman is certainly more qualifed than most to do an update on the subject, and I didn’t see that work as an ad for Nordhavn or anything else, other than for updated knowledge on a...

Should I consider doing my 3208 after coolers my 3208's myself??

Funny when the engine that is only 10 or 12 years past the scheduled service date will be the easier one. I hope that is the case, and then you should head down and buy some lottery tickets. I'm paying close attention since I've been thinking its a job I will be doing some day. Good work so...
