Can I anchor in Canadian water?

While its hard not to appreciate your persistence, no one else sees any need for rulings or clarification, so those things are unlikely to exist. The text is the ruling and is clear to all but you.

Can I anchor in Canadian water?

I'm sure the Canadian border officers will be entertained by your interpretation. Hopefully they won't bother and you won't have to find out. I understood your question to be if you can legally anchor in Canada without clearing into the country. The answer to that question is no, regardless...

Can I anchor in Canadian water?

No, you can't anchor in Canada without clearing into Canada. Anchoring is a clear violation of their regulations.

Rudder Post seeping - no access

I agree that you should cut the bolts off. The threads above the nuts don’t do anything except get in the way. They should have been shorter to start with or cut to size when installed. Whatever the shaft seal needs, it will be easier with those bolts out of the way.

    I hate stainless

Are you guys getting corrosion on the stainless? Water spots? What is your goal in polishing? We get some crevice corrosion at times that will cause a rust stain, but otherwise the polished stainless seems pretty maintenance free. We don’t do much other than it gets washed with the boat and...

Would you buy without a contract?

That might be fine with an 18' skiff, but a bigger boat is complicated and requires a survey (or more than one) which can cost a substantial amount of time and money. No informed buyer is going to make that investment without a contract, which then necessarily includes a contingency for the...

Would you buy without a contract?

Almost true, but not free because the proposed buyer is spending money for survey etc., which he loses if he walks away. In most cases, both parties lose something if the deal falls apart.

Would you buy without a contract?

A new car is a good example of where “As Is” does not apply. The seller/mfr clearly provides warranties for known and unknown defects, and even for defects that didn’t exist at time of sale but appear later and within the warranty period. Exactly the opposite of “As is” , by intent. “As is”...

Would you buy without a contract?

Its an old phrase that means seller doesn’t offer any warranties after the sale. Done correctly, the buyer does all investigation of the condition that they feel is needed prior to close. If they decide to close the deal, they have to live with the condition and can’t go back to the seller...

Rocna Vulcan anchor size for Grand Banks 42?

You present a good argument as to why oversizing an anchor isn’t always positive. Your chain deformed, which means it was close to the failure point. I think most of us would rather have an anchor drag at 2am than break a chain. The first one you have time to deal with, the second one puts you...

    Traveling to Canada

Yes, you should fly the Q flag until you clear in. Lots of people don’t do it. We do it for the same reasons that people say yes sir to police officers. Your call.

Choosing my Ocean Crossing Home - advice needed

A good friend of mine took delivery of a new boat in France (45’ sailing cat), took two weeks to learn the boat and shake it down. Then he and 3 friends sailed it across the Atlantic and it’s now in the Bahamas. Not something I recommend or would do, but opinions vary on how much prep time is...

Choosing my Ocean Crossing Home - advice needed

There is no need to analyze and second guess specific design details if your concern is efficiency. Compare the speed and efficiency of the two completed designs and let the naval architects figure out the design details.

    Eartec hiss

No, none of the headsets should hiss. We have used a set of 4 for multiple years and they are quiet between transmissions.

    Stopping disaster boat porn

Hippo, this comment may lead to part of the solution. I know your history to this point is predominately in sailboats, and I really don't know much about docking a sailboat. I do know a bit about powerboats and I know that docking one can be entirely stress-free, or very stressful. One element...

Nordhavn vs Fleming vs Kady Krogen

Congratulations on making a decision and moving ahead with the purchase. Your reasoning makes perfect sense and is explained well. Too many get so bogged down in the details and in imaginary scenarios that they either never make a decision, or they choose a boat while focused on the wrong...

Nordhavn vs Fleming vs Kady Krogen

The OP on this thread has been gone for close to a year. Apparently he was fully committed to the plan, until he wasn’t. Hopefully he is just busy doing something else, but he may have decided to take up golfing, instead.

Most criticism of the value of licenses is from people that don’t have licenses. Who knows if the dock guy has good skills, with or without a license? However, the good training captains have communication and teaching skills that are equally as important as seamanship skills. They also have...

Nordhavn vs Fleming vs Kady Krogen

    1. Holds enough fuel to get to the other side. 2. Strong enough and seaworthy enough to stay floating and operational in the big weather you may encounter once you are out of forecast range 3. Pick anything you want as long as you have 1 and 2. That covers the important stuff, but for more...

    Covering aft deck?

I would talk to a canvas guy and discuss options for an extension in some appropriate fabric (Stamoid or other). Done right, it will look like it belongs there and make the space shaded from sun and rain. Maybe when that needs replacement you can consider spending 10x to do it in a hard cover...

    Nordhavn

While there are exceptions to every rule, I have found N owners to be very engaged and among the more active boaters. One of the characteristics of the all but the largest models is that they are designed to be run by a couple, without needing hired crew. We have met many scores of N owners...

Nordhavn vs Fleming vs Kady Krogen

Both are coastal cruisers. The N59CP (Coastal Pilot) is one of the only in the N lineup that is designed for coastal cruising, although they still build it to CE-category A offshore rating. The Fleming is a beautiful boat, and also a coastal cruiser. Most boaters can go everywhere they want in...

Long Range Cruising - How big is too big?

I grew up with hot rods and project cars and we always carried tools and a tow strap. I couldn't even count how many times me or my friends needed a roadside repair or a tow. Knocking on wood, but I have had a car break down in decades. The reliability of modern cars (at all price points) is...
