    Velvet Drive shift cables

I would agree with failing shift cables. I would disconnect the upper helm but at the lower helm. If the upper helm cycles smoothly then you can rule out the upper cables. If the lower cables cycle smoothly then you have a shifter adjustment issue. My guess, one of the helms will continue to...

Help! Sea Trial Findings- hard decision to make

I am going only by your statements. Red flag, engines and transmissions rebuilt for $200k and things are still not right. Seller has dumped money he can’t recoup but is willing to walk away! A 4087 is not old enough to need this kind of work. Was it a sinking? A grounding shouldn’t have...

    Oil change goes side ways

The odd part is it worked for 30 seconds and then stopped working. I fully expected to find split or missing vanes. Some how it lost shape after 30 seconds. The fact that a 20 year old impeller failed is of no surprise, just how it appears to have failed was a bit surprising.

    Defever 41 fuel consumption?

Yep, no problem. We proved it with a trip from Chicago to New Orleans on the mighty Mississippi River. Funny, we didn't do nearly as well on the return trip. Go figure.

3208 Port engine still getting salt water into the coolant.

This works well unless the leak is going into the exhaust manifold or into the raw water circuit.

    Oil change goes side ways

Every engine on my boat came due for an oil change all at the same time. No problem, I have all the filters and oil in stock and a very nice oil changing set up. I warmed up all the engines (all 4 - 2 mains, 1 generator, 1 outboard). I hooked my oil extractor to the generator and started to...

    Salt water in fwd bilge

In the past with different boats we discovered bow waves that traveled enough water to enter poorly sealed port lights. While most port lights (or other hull penetrations) usually leak from the top down, it is possible that you have one leaking from the bottom up. At this time my suspicions...

    AWLGRIP Paint Experience

Yes it shines but the amount of shine depends on the environment conditions and the painters skills.

    30amp reverse Y adapter

It operates normally until it doesn't. As TT pointed out its against the rules for safety reasons. I would talk to the marina to see if there is a possible long-term solution. We are not talking about 2x 30a 125v to 50a 125/250v. We are talking about 2x 30a 125v to 50a 125v. At first glance...

I think I found a Hatteras LRC 65 in Brazil.

Most likely SS shaft with prop speed on it.

    Strange exterior fittings

I suspect they are anchor points for a boarding platform that found its way to the bottom of the sea along time ago.

    Hydraulic pump alternatives

I noticed that Simrad pump specs up to 33ci while the octopus specs 23ci. If 23ci is sufficient then you are good to go.

For sale, new unopened box Zantrex Freedom SW 3012, 12 volt, 3000 watt, inverter / charger, for $1,500.

SW3012 is the model #. It stands for 3000w 12v AC 110. If you want 240v output you need to stack two units. If you want 240v input you need a different model.

    Refinish Salon Interior Walls

over the years and across several boats I have done all kinds of repairs. I have sanded, used fairing compound and then finished with wall paper. Once I had a rain leak eat multiple channels through 1/2” plywood that was 3x8’. I removed all the rot and faired with an epoxy filler, finished...

Thank you TT. I was not suggesting it to be an acceptable solution but my language didn’t spell out the negatives very clearly.

    Lithium house bank project

Do you have a BMK? I would measure amps out more than I would rely on voltage. Voltage could be misleading based on what loads are present. Monitoring both of course is best.

    30amp reverse Y adapter

I don't see anything wrong with what Steve said. I suspect Bacchus accidentally read in 125/250 when Steve in fact said 125 or missed that he used the words in phase and accidentally read out of phase. If you combined two in phase 30a 125v sockets you would still have 125v. How many amps you...

    30amp reverse Y adapter

If the sockets are not out of phase you could end up running 60 amps down the neutral. This could turn into a fire. This is why TT only recommends Smart Y adapters, so you don’t inadvertently plug into two sockets in the same phase.

    Your Handle

Never thought about it. It just defaulted to my email name which was set up in the late 80’s. In those days only geeks were on the internet and no one used real names.

    30amp reverse Y adapter

In this case you need the outlets to be out of phase. Everything will work up to a draw of 30a per side. You do not say how many BTU’s the AC is or if anything is 240v. The water heater is typically 11 amps and resides on the primary house leg. AC is typically 11 amps per 16,000 btu and...

Good Morning all, I am back again.

You are correct, the boat is a bad value. I see a tremendous amount of work needed. You would probably be better off to buy a $100,000 boat than this boat. On the other hand if you are young and very mechanically inclined with no money, this might be a good project. When I was young and had...
