    Changing Battery Size? 4x L16 to 8x GC2?

LifePo4 are currently so much cheaper than L-16 or AGM that the savings will pay for the additional equipment needed. A yard is going to quote you $30,000 to convert. A DIY could do it for $3,000. Warning, this is not a DIY project for electrically challenged individuals. Even ABYC admitted...

Will You Go Broke On A Boat? - 1999 Viking 60 SportYatch

Fuel burn can be limited to a gallon a mile. Yes it can burn 40 Gallons an hour if you want it to. Still, fuel is not what will break the bank. Fuel will be one of the smaller expenses. Maintenance cost does not increase is a steady line as things get bigger. It’s much more of an...

Do you need two sets of controls on a liveaboard?

If you only have the flybridge you will need a controlled environment on the flybridge. Just running up and down the West Coast it gets extremely cold at night. I prefer operating from my fly bridge. The seating and view are superior. In order to make this possible on an overnight transit I...

Oyster Bay Marina at Ladysmith BC

As they clear out the derelict boats, these same boats are just moving across to fill up the anchorage by the park. Lady Smith is changing from a sleepy inexpensive destination to a high dollar stop over.

New battery Charger with batteries in parallel

Does it make a difference? Yes. Enough that you care? Maybe. The better way is run one wire then split it into two and hook to both positive terminals.

POR 15 Tank Sealer for a gas tank?

Diesel is not a solvent (bio diesel often can be a solvent) gas is a solvent. This means epoxy fixes that work for diesel may not work for gas.

    LifePo4 battery charger recommendations

I am dealing with a slightly similar but different issue. I have 1000ah of usable bank. I use 650ah in a 24 hour period. My recharge time is 6 hours. I am looking at ways to increase my recharge rate. I have a 9kw genset so loading it up is not an issue. I would like to keep my genset time...

    Choosing the Right Helm Seat

My Uniflite had a bench seat. It was nothing fancy. In fact it was not much more than plywood, foam and vinyl on top of a wooden box. To this day we would prefer a bench seat, unfortunately we just don't have enough walk around room to add a bench seat to the current boat.

    Choosing the Right Helm Seat

You can try that helm chair but After 1 year it will probably be broken and if not it will squeak with every wave. If you plan to keep the boat for 10 years you should invest in a better quality chair.

    LifePo4 battery charger recommendations

I wasn’t recommending 205amps for anyone. I was responding to Mac2 wanting to add additional charging capability. I have a 9k genset so 23 amps isn’t much of a load for me. Mac2 was concerned about whether two chargers would work well together and the answer is they will work together just fine.

Li-Time has a 80A LiFePo4 battery charger for under $300. I am thinking of getting it to jump my charging ability up from 125a to 205a.

    2001 Mainship Starlink Internet Service

With a 40’ boat I would go with the mini. I would attach a 10” post to it and drop it into a rod holder.

    2001 Mainship Starlink Internet Service

Use the search feature. Type “Starlink”. You will find a tremendous amount on information. There are two current models available the “mini” and the Gen 3. You don’t mention your boat size so I don’t know which is appropriate for you. I can say it is the answer to Internet connection. It is...

POR 15 Tank Sealer for a gas tank?

I am familiar with Splash Zone. I am unfamiliar with it as a tank sealer. Nowhere does Pettite (the manufacturer) recommend it as a tank sealer. This of course does not mean it won’t work. I would like to see more information on it as a tank sealer.

First, Starlink is raising the price of Mobile Roam to $165. You will get in motion for speeds up to 100mph and you will get Costal coverage. Now if only I knew what the definition of costal coverage was.

Can I charge and invert simultaneously?

If I understand correctly, the alternator is connected to two busses, one belonging to the generator and one belonging to the house bank. This would mean that the generator bank is part of the house bank. Such an arrangement would kill the generator battery overtime and leave you in a...
