Best cellular carrier in the PNW

Maybe no surprises but the deal certainly has changed over the last 3 years. I now pay 50% more than I did in 2021.

Best cellular carrier in the PNW

I will admit there is always a risk in dealing with Elon.

Boost Volts from 208 to 230

I never looked at Bridgeport with the intention of solving a 208v issue. I didn’t remember there being a tap for boosting. If you are correctly quoting them then a manual switch could be added that would make it a boosting transformer. The reason that Bridgeport does not meet ABYC standards...

Boost Volts from 208 to 230

These will simply pass on 208v if that is what is on the dock. There is a way to wire them such that you don’t get two 104v legs but two 120v legs. You could then take one of the legs and boost it to 240v. You can not use both hot legs to get 240v, you will just end back at 208v. Boosting...

    208volt Problem at Marinas

What you need is a boosting transformer. Unfortunately you will then have too much voltage when you get to a standard 240v dock. So what you need is an auto boosting isolation transformer. I have not researched this subject in a long time so I have no idea what is available.

Kabola not heating rooms but heating water

I am with TT. Is there power on both sides of that inline fuse?

Boost Volts from 208 to 230

The reason the power is 208 has to due with you getting two power feeds of a Y transformer were each feed is 120 degrees out instead of 180. I think you would be well served to seek some one on one education on this subject.

Marine Trader vs.CHB PT vs Ocean Alexander

When new you would have been comparing a Chevy to a Buick to a Cadillac. Now it comes down to maintenance and equipment. If all things are equal I would pick the OA. However, I wouldn’t pick a poorly maintained OA over a pristine Marine Trader.

July 4th Lake Union festivities from the boat?

Everyone should do it at least once. I do it once every 10 years. I recommend you spend the night on the anchor and head out the next morning.

    Generator question

Maybe but if the generator has over Hz protection then it will just shut off. Did anyone verify if the generator was putting out 60hz or 50hz? If it is putting out 50hz I would proceed with the position that the generator dose not exist and make your decisions on that bases.

    Chronic window leaking

Yes, the process starts with removing the screws. Then you will need 4 putty knives, one being very thin and 3 of normal thickness. Two small pry bars will come in handy as well. The thin putty knife will cut the sealant the other three will help you to start prying out the window.

Under insured in Florida and it's not right!

It is my experience that the only way you can now get the boat insured for more than you paid for it is to have it surveyed. I understand your pain. I bought a boat that was $300,000 behind in maintenance at the time. Because most of the issues were labor related, I was able to bring the boat...

    Chronic window leaking

Once you remove the frame from the boat I think it will be obvious how the glass separates from the frame. With the frame out you will be able to inspect the water damage and better determine where the leak is coming from. Just don't forget to inspect the frame for corrosion damage.

    Starlink Mount

The Gen2 vs the Gen3. Really, we haven't seen enough difference in the two to care. Starlink has a habit of pointing some units towards incoming satellites and pointing some towards departing satellites to spread the load. The Gen 3's all lay mostly flat so there is no ability for Starlink to...

    Batteries

DeepCycle banks usually get deep discharges where Start banks usually do not experience a deep discharge. What happens is the ACR kicks in, the charger sees the deep discharge and kicks in the voltage and amperage. The DC batteries are now happy but the Start batteries are now getting boiled...

Victron sine wave problem while charging

That narrows the scope of the problem. If there is a different outlet on the same circuit as the problem outlet, give it a try. This will help zero in on the problem area.

Victron sine wave problem while charging

Is this outlet on the same circuit as the outlet that has no issue?

Victron sine wave problem while charging

Interesting. To really get to the bottom of this you will need to see how the inverter/charger and this circuit are related. Possibly they share the circuit. More likely the circuit wires are zip tied to each other some where that is causing the interference.

    Batteries

I want to caution people about connecting alternators directly to LiFePo4 battery banks. It can kill your alternator under certain circumstances. There are two ways to do this. One is with the right equipment that properly manages the alternator. The other is to use the boat’s systems in a...

    Batteries

You are on the right track with a dc to dc charger. You will need to run a power wire from your ignition to the dc to dc charger to activate it when the engines are running.

    Chronic window leaking

I had a window start leaking this winter. I took clear vinyl and preservation tape that was 1” larger than the window. Leak went away. This told me that I had an issue with either the bedding between the frame and boat or with the bedding between the glass and frame. The bedding between...

1/2 or 5/8 inch dock lines for GB 36

    I find I have a better grip with 5/8 and 3/4 lines over 1/2 and 1”.

Victron sine wave problem while charging

Could actually be under loaded. Try again with more of load just to rule out the possibility of an under loaded generator fluctuating.

Victron sine wave problem while charging

When you are on shore power, set up the same charging and washing scenario. See if you have the same issue. This will help you to determine if it is the generator or the Victron. StevenK brings up a very often missed issue with reverse polarity.
